My dear Parish Family: I hope that you are all healthy and safe and well. As I told you in last weekend’s homily, my favorite character from the Wizard of Oz is the Cowardly Lion. In these last few days, in thinking of my own fears and anxieties, I find myself clenching my fists, facing my fears and saying those words that the Cowardly Lion would say: “Put ‘em up! Put ‘em up!” All kidding aside, it is our faith in God and knowing that He walks with us in these times that gives us the courage to move forward. Now a story - Arthur John Gossip was born in Scotland in 1873. He became a pas-tor, a military chaplain in two world wars, and a professor. In 1927, at the age of 54, and just one day after the sudden death of his dear wife, this grieving pastor stood up to preach on Sunday morning. His opening remark was an unforgettable ques-tion; he asked, “When life tumbles in, what then?” Now in 2020, I want to ask you that same question. We are constantly reminded that the Christian life is a journey along a track with two rails: one rail can be called triumph and one is called misfortune. In this life, we are going to face blessings and battles, pain and peace, victory and valleys. But we do not have to live in fear and perpetual panic. Take Courage! The Good Shepherd will always be with us. Someone once said, “Remember this: if you’re walking through the valley of darkness and struggles and difficulties, re-member a shadow is cast by the light.” I want to remind you and myself that the problems we face in this life will either defeat us or develop us - depending on our source of strength. In John 16, at the end of His earthly ministry, on the eve of His betrayal and the edge of suffering. Je-sus is trying desperately to give his disciples comfort and hope in the light of the approaching storm of the cross. “Take Courage!” He tells them, “Take Courage!” The disciples went on to change the world. He is the source of our strength. He is our courage always. God is with you and with me. Take Courage!

With love and appreciation for each one of you, Father Vincent

Sharing the Gospel Before Jesus went back to heaven, he gave his friends a very special job - to share the good news! Jesus came so that the whole world could be saved, and Jesus did not want anyone to be left out. Now it's your turn to tell your friends about Jesus, so they can go to heaven, too. Prayer Jesus, show me how to tell my friends about you. Something to Draw Draw a picture of yourself telling a friend about Jesus. Mission for the Week Invite a friend over to play. Ask your friend if she'd like to come to church with you.
