Dear Parishioners,
By now most of you have heard of the death on June 30th, of Arnie Fusco.
I first met him ten years ago when he arranged to move my belongings from Holy
Name Rectory to O.L.A.
Father Devlin, my predecessor, had known Arnie and Maria and their daughters when
they all lived in Canarsie. When the Fusco family moved to Bay Ridge and were
reconnected with Father Devlin, Arnie became involved in the fundraising efforts of our
parish.
Arnie continued to serve O.L.A. for the rest of his life. He not only organized the
counting of the collection with the extremely dedicated team, he chaired the golf outing,
raffles, the St. Patrick-St. Joseph celebration, Night at the Races, wrestling, etc. He also was a
founding member of the Board of Holy Angels Catholic Academy and did banking deposits
and transfers, vetted contracts with painters, plumbers, the air conditioning company,
electricians, etc.
As you can see, having Arnie as part of the staff was a pastor’s answer to prayer.
However, what he did for the parish and for me personally was secondary. All his
work for O.L.A. proceeded from a heart that was in union with Christ. He was a true
Catholic Christian gentleman who befriended so many people.
To his devoted wife Maria and their daughters Stephanie (Matt) and Rosemarie (Alex)
and his grandchildren Mia and Lucas, I extend the sympathy and love of all of us at O.L.A.
and promise our prayers for Arnie and for their consolation.
Let’s pray for each other,
Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

OPEN WIDE OUR HEARTS
In November 2018 the Catholic bishops of the United States released a Pastoral Letter Against Racism called, Open Wide Our Hearts. The letter is a powerful invitation for all the people of God to “face courageously the vice of racism,...reach out generously to the victims of this evil, to assist the conversion needed in those who still harbor racism, and to begin to change policies and structures that allow racism to persist.” At usccb.org/racism, you can read the entire letter, get new resources and find ideas for how we can respond.
