THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE
As children we sang the lively song This Little Light of Mine. The words, of course, are based on today’s Gospel, in which we are called as disciples to be salt and light for the world. Children are uninhibited about sharing their faith. It’s only when we grow older that we prefer to hide our light under a bushel basket because our culture tends not to emphasize discipleship. The message in this week’s readings is clear: in order to give glory to God through our discipleship, we must show the light of Christ in our words and deeds. Not an easy thing for inhibited adults. Often we may think of salt and light in terms of what we do for others, but it can be just as important not to do something, such as getting angry with the stranger on the road, or telling an offensive joke.

Dear Parishioners,
Today we welcome all to register for the great experience of scripture based faith sharing in the
ARISE program.
For anyone looking to do something special for this upcoming Lent, this is an ideal way of
becoming more reflective on the Sunday scriptures. A byproduct has been the building up of a
community / family spirit that has frequently formed in the small groups.
The experience in the Fall was appreciated by several people and for this next session we have a
core group of men interested in forming a men’s group.
You may register today or after the masses next weekend, February 11th & 12th.
World Marriage Day will be observed here at O.L.A. on this coming Saturday, February 11, at the
5:00pm Mass and will be followed by a light supper in the cafeteria. This mass is always a source of
inspiration as we see couples renew their marriage vows in the sanctuary.
I am very grateful to Pam Hume, Ann O’Brien and all the leaders of the ARISE program in
English and to Soraida Puente and Rocio Siegel and the leaders in Spanish who have been so generous
with their time and who have seen to all the details of this prayerful experience.
I am also very grateful to Paula DiClementi who has seen to so many details in the celebration of
World Marriage Day.
Let’s pray for each other. Msgr. Kevin B. Noone
