CHURCH
Sunnyside News is a weekly publication designed to inform members and subscribers of our current news and events. Church in the Mountains this Sabbath
This Sabbath we will worship together at Shaver Lake. No services will be held at our church in Fresno this Sabbath. Instead, we will have a day filled with worship, fellowship and rejoicing as nine people will be baptized in the lake. Our Shaver Sabbath is a great opportunity to acquaint others with the love of God in an informal and relaxed environment. You'll want to invite your friends and family to experience our annual tradition filled with love and fellowship.Things are casual on this day, so dress comfortably for church and afternoon, and wear dirt/beach-friendly shoes. Items to bring include folding chairs and/or blankets to sit on, sunscreen, insect repellent, and kids’ sand toys. You may want to bring a canopy or beach umbrella to provide shade at the lakeside during the baptisms. Bring a sweater or light jacket for the evening as the temperature is about 20° cooler than the Valley. Complete details of the day's events are on page 3.
Direc t ions to Shaver Lake Community Center Chapel: Take Highway 168 East from Fresno to Shaver Lake. As you come into town you w i l l no t i ce the Sawmi l l Restaurant on your right. As you pass the restaurant immediately look LEFT and you will see a quaint white church. Turn left and park between the church and the Community Center. If you pass Dinkey Creek Road in your attempt to find the church, turn around and look for the only white church in town. Travel time from Fresno is approximately 1 hour.Direct ions to Camp Edison “Towhee” Picnic Site : Take Highway 168 1.6 miles past the Community Center Chapel, turn right at the Camp Edison (PG&E) Campground turnout. SeaweedWhen the body is saturated with natural iodine from seaweed, it will more readily excrete radioactive iodine taken in from the air, water or food. This prevents radiation poisoning of the thyroid.Seaweed helps discharge other radioactive elements. Studies starting in 1964 at McGill University in Canada show that a substance in kelp and other common seaweeds could reduce the amount of radioactive strontium absorbed through the intestine by 50 to 80 percent. Macrobiotic doctors and patients in Nagasaki survived the atomic bombing on August 9, 1945.) They protected themselves against lethal doses of radiation on a diet of brown rice, miso soup, seaweed and sea salt.
• Seaweeds contain 14 times more calcium by weight than milk.• Seaweed is high in protein, low in fat and contains little or no carbs.• Seaweed has components which lower blood pressure, prevent arteriosclerosis, and
combat tumors.• Seaweed has important antibacterial and antiviral effects.• Seaweed reduces cholesterol levels in the blood, high blood pressure and
arteriosclerosis. Laboratory experiments in Japan have shown that it is due to improved metabolism which reduces the accumulation of fats.
• Seaweed contains B12 (rarely found in vegetables).• Seaweed is rich in iron, potassium, magnesium, zinc, manganese and 60 trace minerals• A substance called aliginic acid, found in seaweed, helps the body to eliminate toxins
and harmful substances from the body. (Study at McGill University in Montreal)• Find a way to add seaweed to your diet! If you aren't a fan of the flavor, you can
disguise it in salads and stir fry dishes.

Fall Women’s Bible StudyJoin Soul Sisters for their newest Bible Study, A Women’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place by Beth Moore, beginning Monday, September 14, through Monday, November 16. In this women’s Bible study experience we’ll explore the fascinating account of the building of the Old Testament tabernacle, the significance of its intricate design, its pivotal role in God’s eternal plan, the grand fulfillment of its purpose by Jesus Christ, and its variety of meanings for your walk with God today. Perhaps no Old Testament event so dramatically illustrates God’s persistent desire to relate to His children as the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness.

Getting to Know Our Family & Friends
“We must understand that God does not ‘love’ us without liking us - through gritted teeth - as ‘Christian’ love is sometimes thought to do. Rather, out of the eternal freshness of his perpetually self-renewed being, the heavenly Father cherishes the earth and each human being upon it. The fondness, the endearment, the unstintingly affectionate regard of God toward all his creatures is the natural outflow of what he is to the core - which we vainly try to capture with our tired but indispensable old word ‘love’.”
