Walk tall and dont dress like a whore (Chrysler Country,
Second Episode)
Cold open
Councillor Chryslers daughter Krispy Chrysler is on the witness
stand. Krispy tries to apologize for having said somethinginappropriate at a conference about violence against women. The
opposing lawyers joust about the relevance of her Lingerie
Football League career.
The crowd in the court gets excited when Krispy expresses pride
in being a Chrysler and pride in Chrysler Country. The judge
decides that it is a good time for a break. Krispy flirts with
him before he leaves the courtroom.
In chambers, Alan Isbister, for the mayor, accuses his opposite
Davis Diamond of making a mockery of the court. Diamond insistshe has a reason for calling Krispy to the stand: To show the
rampant sexism and misogyny in the mayors office.
The judge is more concerned about something else, though: A note
in cut-and-paste letters sent to his office that reads: Stop
the gravy train.
ACT I
Doug Chrysler plays with a model train in his office. He really
wants to be head of the Transit Authority.
His brother favours him for the role but it is also coveted by
Karen Smart. Smart is also one of the few females on city
council who is far enough to the right of centre at least on
fiscal policies to be an occasional Chrysler ally.
This causes difficulty for Nick because he thinks giving the job
to Smart would be wise. But that would alienate Doug. He tries
to please both of them by offering other roles to Smart.
The press, meanwhile, is an ongoing distraction for the mayors
office. One story that captures the brothers interest is an on-air editorial by Paula Dinaliese of TorontoTV about how the
brothers political lives could be transformed into a hilarious
situation comedy. The Chrysler brothers like the idea and
suggest to Nick that he write some scripts and leak them to a
reporter. They do not understand that Paulas story is negative.

The brothers are similarly clueless about the coverage given to
Krispys Lingerie Football League career. They think it is cute
that she plays in the league and consider the press coverage
flattering; perhaps even helpful for a future political career
for her, too.
Negotiations between Nick and Councillor Smart, meanwhile, are
going well and it soon seems that her support can be assured by
making her a member of the executive committee.
Nick is pretty sure she will agree and attends council while it
is in session to deliver the news to Mayor Chrysler. Nick takes
a seat in the gallery and witnesses the mayor experience some
difficulty with his microphone. Smart also joins the meeting.
Nick is soon joined by Paula Dinaliese and they chat about the
idea of making the Chrysler brothers lives into a sitcom; a
show about something. They are overheard by a Globe and Mail
reporter, who gets angry at both of them for stealing her idea.
Chryslers technical difficulties play in the background and
seem innocuous until a woman making a deputation to council says
something about many wonderful words that begin with the letter
c. The mayor, not realizing his mic is on, mutters that he can
think of a wonderful word for the woman speaking that also
begins with the letter c.
ACT II
Nick recommends that the mayor apologize but the mayor resists;
it was just a joke.
The mayors insistence that he was just making a joke when
confronted by Paula and the TorontoTV crew makes things worse.
The few potential female supporters on counsel start to abandon
him. Smart will not return calls.
Accusations that the Chrysler brothers are sexist multiply in
the press. Women in their office dont talk to them. Irina
Chrysler gives Mayor Chrysler a rough ride when he gets home.
Eventually Mayor Chrysler agree to make a statement written byNick that is contrite and talks about his support for women and
issues that are important to women. It helps win back his own
supporters but his detractors are not satisfied.
Doug Chrysler thinks that Krispy might be able to help. He
therefore takes Krispy to a public event about violence against
women being hosted by the Chief of Police, Bill Blenhorn.

Krispy, of course, assures her father beforehand that she is
very much against violence against women.
Things seem to be going well but then, at the end of the event,
Krispy tells reporters that women need to take more initiative
on the issue. How?
Stay alert, walk tall. Anything else? Carry mace, take self-
defence classes. And one other thing: Dont dress like a
whore.
Even the Chrysler brothers realize this is a disaster. Something
must be done - again. Councillor Doug agrees to fix it after
all, it is his daughter who messed up. He will take Krispy on
the brothers weekly radio show instead of the mayor, and they
will say something to undo the damage.
Doug Chrysler goes on the air and explains that the Mayor meanteverything he said in the speech; that both he and his brother
are, in fact, huge supporters of women.
It all seems headed on the right track until Councillor Chrysler
says the following about Krispy: I chewed her ass out from one
end to the other and she learned a good lesson. Then Krispy
chimes in: Yeah, chewed my ass out from one end to the other.
Chewed it out good, the Councillor repeats.
ACT III
Krispy, back on the witness stand, insists that her dad did fix
everything: He reamed me out good, she states. That fixed
everything. When asked whether it wasnt in fact Karen Smart who
set things straight, Krispy does not appear to know who Smart
is.
But it appears from an interview with Paula Dinaliese that Karen
Smart did come to Mayor Chryslers rescue. Smart, stepping out
of a mock-up of a new rapid transit vehicle, first says nice
things about the Chrysler brothers and how, although they both
sometimes misspeak, their hearts are in the right place when it
comes to women. If that were not true, she adds, the mayor wouldnot have appointed her to be the new head of the transit
authority. Smart then proceeds to introduce the new rapid
transit vehicle to the rest of the assembled press.
