The aim of the Conference is to give the right focus that chronic pain syndromes deserve in the apparently foreign

rehabilitation environment. It also aims to provide the scientifi c background for the interplay of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches with rehabilitation procedures in chronic pain syndromes in patients with diseases who need rehabilitation hospitalization and afterward. In this view, physical and cognitive- behavioral rehabilitation procedures integrate with long term pharmacological (local or systemic) and non-pharmacological procedures aimed to improve primary and secondary chronic pain syndromes during rehabilitation. Chronic headaches are also regarded as disorders that need rehabilitation beside pharmacological approaches, and are also included in the chronic pain rehabilitation fi eld.The Conference is addressed to different health care professionals who are involved in caring and curing patients affected by chronic pain syndromes due to different causes. Pathophysiology, molecular biology and pharmacology of chronic pain are outlined as well as clinical features of all possible diseases or syndrome who undergo rehabilitation. The program provides an update of the current status of the ongoing work of the Italian Consensus Conference “Chronic Pain in Neurorehabilitation”, hold by the main Italian scientifi c rehabilitation societies SIRN and SIMFER that intends to provide guidelines for better care of chronic pain in rehabilitation patients.
