For alto, Middle-Eastern singer (alto) and orchestra (2 flutes, 2 clarinets in B flat, 2 bassoons, 4 French horns, 1 tuba, 1 harp, three percussion, strings ((8, 8, 6, 6, 3). Based on the Greek Orthodox Easter chant by the same title. Christos Anesti is an adaptation of Creeds, the opening movement of Constantinople and was created to be programmed together with Sepulcher of Life. Duration: 6:30 minutes.

Hatzis was the composer-in-residence at the Scotia Festival of Music, one of Canada's most important summer music events. The residence included the commission of Farewell to Bach for Tafelmusik, Canada's only baroque orchestra playing on period instruments, performances of a number of Hatzis' chamber works including new versions of Stylus for baroque string quartet and Equivoque for harpsichord and tape by members of the Tafelmusik orchestra. Bach was premiered on June 6 at the St. Andrew’s United Church at an all Art-of-the-Fugue program for a capacity audience, the composer conducting the Tafelmusic orchestra and recorded by CBC Radio 2 for future broadcasts. It was repeated as an

encore at the request of the audience. Hatzis’s Inuit inspired works were also presented in a single program on June 13 at the Neptune theatre. Hatzis’ Burial Ground was selected as one of the four finalists for the Jean A. Chalmers Award for Composition. (The award eventually went to his colleague Chan Ka Nin).

Hatzis and CBC Radio producer Keith Horner travelled to Canada’s Northwest Territories (Nunavut) to record and interview Inuit Throat singers. Their project will result in a CBC one-hour special on the Inuit and their culture—a hybrid form of radio documentary and electroacoustic composition—based on the collected material from this trip. Recordings of Angela Atagootak, Pauline Kyak, Elisha Kilabuk, Koomoo Noveyak, Eligah Maggitak, Napachie Pootoogook, Timagiak Petautassie and Haunak Mikigak were made at Iqaluit and Cape Dorset on Baffin Island.
