Christopher Jones Juror for Fine Arts Christopher Jones is Curator of Photography and New Media at The Ringling Museum of Art, where he has curated exhibitions such as Territories: Photography, Space, and Power; Builder Levy: Appalachia USA; and Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration. His most recent exhibition is Hank Willis Thomas: Branded/Unbranded. Prior to the Ringling Museum of Art, Christopher was Assistant Curator of Prints of Photographs at the University of New Mexico Art Museum. Christopher Jones Juror for Fine Arts

Christopher Jones is Curator of Photography and New Media at The Ringling Museum of Art, where he has curated exhibitions such as Territories: Photography, Space, and Power; Builder Levy: Appalachia USA; and Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration. His most recent exhibition is Hank Willis Thomas: Branded/Unbranded.

Prior to the Ringling Museum ofArt, Christopher was Assistant Curator of Prints of Photographs at the University of New Mexico Art Museum.

He completed post-graduate work at the University of Florida in the History of Photography and received his MA from the University of New Mexico in Modern and Contemporary Art.

David Houle Juror for Visual Studies

David is considered one of the foremost futurists in the world today. He has written seven books, delivered 800+ keynotes, and presentations on six continents and fourteen countries in the last ten years.

He is now a full-time resident of Sarasota and is the Futurist in Residence and Guest Lecturer at the Ringling College of Art + Design. David is also the Honorary Futurist and President at the Future Business School of China and a Founding Member of The Sarasota Institute. He writes the monthly “The Futurist” column for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

David Trujillo Juror for Advertising Design

Originally from Ecuador, David Trujillo is a designer and art director living in the Pacific Northwest. David graduated from Ringling in 2010 and currently works at Wieden+Kennedy, in Portland, Oregon. His work specializes in design thinking and storytelling for brands like Nike, Facebook, Instagram, KFC, Laika, Old Spice, Travel Oregon, Samsung, TurboTax, among others. David’s work can be seen in private collections, city takeovers, Super Bowl ads, miniature restaurant pop-ups, collectible sneakers, and other places non-disclosure agreements prevent us from sharing. David’s work has won recognition from Cannes Lions, the One Club, the Webby, Awwwards, FWA, Communication Arts, and his parents’ refrigerator door. His latest project includes a $20,000 sandwich-shaped meteorite and a fashion line for KFC which appeared in Times Magazine, Forbes, USA Today, and Hypebeast.

When he isn’t working, David is often found traveling, Instagramming with his friends, unsuccessfully attempting to tame his half-wild cat, lifting weights, swimming, eating, and sleeping.

Kyle Cooper Juror for Motion Design

Kyle Cooper has created hundreds of main title and visual effects sequences. Details magazine credits Cooper with “almost single-handedly revitalizing the main title sequence as an art form.” While at Yale University, Cooper studied independently with Paul Rand. He named and founded Imaginary Forces, and then Prologue Films. Cooper holds the title of Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of the Arts in London. He has received nine Emmy nominations and two wins for his work. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and holds a Lifetime Achievement Award from the AIGA.

Lucas Spivey Juror for Business of Art and Design

A BFA/MBA, Lucas Spivey produces business education for artists, designers, writer, performers and other cultural entrepreneurs. In 2016, Lucas launched the Mobile Incubator, a rolling

recording studio and showcase of art and design inside a 1957 camper trailer towed by a 1973

ambulance. From conversations on the road, he produces podcasts, exhibitions and

documentaries to share business advice between artists. Lucas is the founder of the

consultancy Services Invisible, host of the Culture Hustlers podcast, and the founder of the

experimental arts center 17 Cox.

Marcos Chin Juror for Illustration

Hehasworked with such companiesas Target, Starbucks, Google, Pepsi, Ford, Neiman Marcus, Fiat, Budweiser, Time, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, GQ, Sports Illustrated, and The New York Times. Marcos has given lectures and workshops throughout the US and abroad, and currently lives in New York where he teaches Illustration at the Schoolof Visual Arts.

Mike Franchina Juror for Game Art

Mike is a veteran concept artist with 12 years in the industry. After graduating from Messiah College, Mike began his career as a freelance illustrator. After two extremely low-paying years of freelance, Mike secured a role in the video game industry and has ridden that gravy train ever since. Mike has worked on various games, most notably Warhammer Online, Torchlight 2 and Diablo.

In his spare time, Mike can be foundinhishome office avoiding chores, working on his personal passion projects, and shouting at video games. He lives in Southern California with his wife Min, along with a demon cat and a rat dog.

Robin O’Dell Juror for Photography

Ms. O’Dell is responsible for the care, organization, and exhibition of one of the finest photography collections in the Southeast, numbering over 16,500 separate images. At the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, FL, she has assisted with more than 50 exhibitions and curated six, including Changing Identities: The Len Prince Photographs of Jessie Mann, and Harold Edgerton: What the Eye Can’t See. She is also responsible for choosing photographic installations for the newly added Marian Acheson Gallery of photography in the collections galleries. Ms. O’Dell has an MA in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management in the joint program offered by Ryerson University in Toronto and the George Eastman Museum in Rochester. Past positions include assistant to the archivist at the Keith Haring Foundation, guest curator for the St. Petersburg Museum of History, and exhibition intern with the Roman Vishniac Archive at the International Center of Photography, New York.

Rachelle Schoessler Lynn, fasid, cid, leed fellow Certifed Interior Designer/Senior Associate MSR

A national leader in work-place design, Rachelle has devoted her 28-year career to combining design excel-lence with workplace inno-vation. She has distinguished

herself in the interior design profession as a passionate and dedicated advocate for sustainable design and hu-man health and well-being. The fact that people spend 90% of their time indoors drives Rachelle’s passion to design spaces that ofer healthier interior environments. This approach has resulted in award-winning design at the forefront of workplace innovation and sustainability. Rachelle believes that the interior design profession can and should positively impact people’s health and well-being. In addition to her professional practice, she is past national chair of ASID. In this role, Rachelle furthered the case for sustainable design through policy, research initiatives, and writing and speaking engagements. She also cofounded the USGBC Minnesota Chapter and was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Min-nesota College of Design. Rachelle became a USGBC LEED Fellow in 2013 and was inducted into the ASID College of Fellows in 2009. She received the national ASID Designer of Distinction Award in 2016 and the ASID Minnesota Chapter Designer of Distinction Award in 2004. Other honors she has received include an Iowa State University Design Achievement Award.

Ralph Barnette Juror for Film

Ralph Barnette is a multi-faceted creative professional with a 40-year career punctuated by award-winning projects. A North Carolina native, his natural abilities in art opened early career paths of fine art, design and photography. An attraction to filmmaking rounded out high school creative interests that led him to study fine art and filmmaking at Pratt Institute.

Returning to North Carolina after college, Ralph worked several years designing and writing for Duke University. Making an Atlanta entrepreneurial debut in 1980, he spent 25 years directing creative projects in advertising, design, dance, and filmmaking. He has been Art Director of a Clio Award-winning team (Spelman College,1984), Director of a 1996 Cultural Olympiad Arts Exhibition (GaArts ’96), and Creative Director for two of Atlanta’s most heralded urban design projects (Studioplex and Freedom Park). Relocating to Sarasota in 2004, he has since pursued his love of filmmaking through work on hundreds of commercial shoots and several feature films while directing his own projects.

Steve Hickner Juror for Computer Animation

Steve Hickner has spent the past thirty years working at some of the

most fabled studios in animation, including DreamWorks, Disney, Amblimation, Aardman, Hanna-Barbera and Filmation.

Steve has worked on both the

production and artistic sides of the

process, serving as Producer on such

films as American Tail II: Fievel Goes West; We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story; and Balto. His director credits include

Bee Movie and The Prince of Egypt. Additionally, he has contributed to

such feature films as Who Framed

Roger Rabbit?, The Little Mermaid, The Great Mouse Detective, Madagascar, Shrek Forever After, Home and others.

His television credits include such favorites as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. Most recently, Steve has been working on attractions for theme park

attractions in London, Dubai, Malaysia, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal Studios Beijing. He is most jealous that his wife got to meet Walt Disney during a trip to Disneyland and

Charles M. Schulz while working on the Rose Parade.

Todd James Pierce Juror for Creative Writing

Todd James Pierce is the author of the novel The Australia Stories, and Newsworld, which won

the 2006 Drue Heinz Literature Prize. His nonfiction books include Three Years in Wonderland

and The Life and Times of Ward Kimball: Maverick of Disney Animation (forthcoming 2018). Todd’s work has appeared in over 70 magazines and journals, including The Georgia Review, Gettysburg Review, Indiana Review, The Iowa Review, The Missouri Review, New England

Review, North American Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Willow Springs. He lives on

California’s Central Coast and directs the creative writing program at Cal Poly University.
