Dumped Dog’s PrayerDonʼt close the door! Donʼt push me away. Why are you leaving? Donʼt make me stay.Slow down the car, I canʼt keep up.This pavement is hot and my pads are cut.Iʼve got to quit running or my heart will pop.Every muscle is aching. Why donʼt you stop?Iʼm so hungry and thirsty. Darkness is near. But I shouldnʼt leave, he will come for me here.Several weeks have passed, I am dead on my

feet. They call me a nuisance because I eat off the

streets.Every car that passes, I chase it to seeIf itʼs my master coming for me.Though I approach those that come nearWith trust in my eyes and no sign of fear. With hate in their voices and a cold, heartless

stare,They threaten to kill me—they donʼt even care.Batter my body with rocks that they throw,I will not leave, he will come, donʼt you know?Overtaken with weakness, my body is numb.Iʼm sick and so lonely. Oh please, let him come!I will go back where he first threw me out.Iʼll wait for him there, he will come, no doubt. My thoughts are fading. My chest feels like lead.Iʼm sleepy, so sleepy—I canʼt lift my head.Itʼs so quiet, so peaceful—all remains still. There is my master at my home on the hill.Yes, I can see him, heʼs calling my name. His voice is so gentle, his hands are the same.He decided he wants me. Things will be fine.I really do love him, that master of mine.My tail wags with pleasure. I canʼt catch my breath. He came in my dreams, but so did my DEATH!!

Two of the Northeast’s topstock car drivers haveannounced their commitment toRiverside Speedway for the2013 season. Hometown favoriteand former track champ RandyPotter, and multi-time WhiteMountain Motorsports Parkchampion Quinny Welch. “I’vealways called Groveton home,”stated Welch. The multi-timeLate Model champ is impressedwith Dan Fournier’s ideas forthe future of the track and hisincentives in the Late Modeldivision. “Dan has looked toproven promoters for advice, and I think it’s awesome how hewants to give back to the racersand promote the track. That’show it should be.” Welch isexcited to come back to theGroveton high banks, but isexpecting some tough competi-tion along the way. Betweenreturning current championLuke Shannon and Potter,Welch knows the road to thechampionship will be tough.Potter, the 1987 Super Stockchampion and 1994 Late Modelchampion at Riverside Speed-way, has also made his commit-ment to Riverside for the 2013season. Potter has been a stapleon the American Canadian LateModel Tour over the last fewseasons and emotions are run-ning high pending his return tohis home track. “There will be ahigher quality of competitionthis year,” mentioned Potter. “Itwill be challenging, and I thinkyou’ll see multiple winners. It’sway better to have more compe-tition, for the racers and thetrack. It certainly makes youstep your game up”.

No one saw this coming. Noone! Brad Keselowski won hisfirst race in 2009 at TalladegaSuperspeedway, running a part-time schedule with single-carteam Phoenix Racing. It was a

nice story in a long season, onethat ended with JimmieJohnson winning the champi-onship. His second victory camein 2011 at Kansas Speedway, while in his second full seasonwith Penske Racing. That winmoved him into 21st in points.Again, a feel-good story toweave into the year; one thatculminated with Tony Stewartcapturing his third title. Big-pic-ture speaking, Keselowski’syearly career followed a similarstory arch. Flashes of brilliancewherever he drove—be it theNASCAR Camping World TruckSeries, NASCAR NationwideSeries or his thus far brieftenure in the NASCAR SprintCup Series—all followed by apremier series title by two no-doubt-about-it NASCAR leg-ends: Jimmie Johnson and TonyStewart. Now it’s Keselowski’sturn. Keselowski turned in achampionship-worthy Chase forthe NASCAR Sprint Cup, best-ing both Chase-participantsJohnson and Stewart. His aver-age finish of 6.3 in the Chase, was the exact same figure ofStewart’s last season. He wontwice, including an opening sal-vo at Chicagoland Speedwaythat set the rest of the sport onhigh alert. So, for the first timesince 2004, NASCAR has a pre-mier series champion not namedJohnson or Stewart. From thefirst primetime Daytona 500through Keselowski and ownerRoger Penske’s first NASCARSprint Cup championship, the2012 season was filled with dra-

ma and intrigue. Keselowski’sseries-high five wins notwith-standing, Keselowski’s clutchplayoff performance may live asthe most memorable chapterfrom his first championship. Hetallied two wins and eight top-10 finishes in the 10-race Chase. His worst finish was just 15th inthe season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway—the exact fin-ish he needed to guarantee thechampionship. In the last 40years, Keselowski became onlythe third driver to win aNASCAR Sprint Cup title with-in his first three seasons, joiningNASCAR Hall of Famer DaleEarnhardt and Jeff Gordon.
