Support Office This has been a busy month, I have been able to lend mobility equipment to several RSA members which is always very re-warding. I have also had visitors requiring assistance in other areas. I will be taking the last trip to the cemetery on December 11th, you are very welcome to join us if you wish, we leave the RSA at 1.45 pm. We will recommence the trips on January 22nd 2019. It is with sadness we have lost one of our village residents and one of our Dee St residents in the last few weeks. Our con-dolences to the families and friends. The weather is warming up nicely for the

summer, you will all be looking forward to

getting out and enjoying some summer

activities.

Mt Maunganui RSA Country Music Club A very large and appreciative audience enjoyed

a fantastic afternoon of Country Music at our

November club day on Sunday 25th. Our Guest

Artist was a very talented Kylie Austin who

gave us a great variety of Country songs in-

cluding “American Trilogy” , ' Bridle hanging

on the wall and “ Two more bottles of wine” to

name a few. She also did a beautiful rendition

of “Unchained Melody” which the large and

appreciative audience loved. It was a great per-

formance by Kylie and we were very privileged

to have such a professional entertainer as our

Guest Artist at the club.

There is no Country Music club day in Decem-

ber because of a bit of a clash with Xmas / New

Year so our next show will be in January 2019

on Sunday 27th starting at 1pm.

Our Guest Artist that day will be 18 year old

Nelson MacFarlane from Rotorua. He first start-

ed to sing when he began to involve himself

with a local Rotorua kapa haka group,

Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao, who he performed

with in the 2016 Te Arawa Regional competi-

tion, and the national Te Matatini competition in

2017 where he and his group were finalists. As

an individual, Nelson has performed at a num-

ber of events, such as the Rotorua Lakeside

concert in 2018 where he received the second

ever standing ovation at the concert, the other

being Simon O’Neill, now an international opera

singer. He is also the winner of the Super 8

Cultural Festival ‘solo performance’ section,

where he performed an opera piece. Nelson

was privileged enough to have performed for

the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and

Meghan in Rotorua recently. Nelson has been

mentored by an amazing vocal coach named

Elisha Hulton and is grateful for all of her hard

work and efforts in getting him to where he is

today. Although he is well known for his sing-

ing, Nelson has chosen a totally different career

path. In early 2019 he is joining the New Zea-

land Army, where he will be a soldier in the

Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment and is

hoping to be posted to the 1st Battalion based

in Linton. He has aspirations of being deployed

overseas, to serve the country he is so proud

of.

WALKING GROUP Christmas greetings to all you good, happy walkers. We won’t be officially walking over Christmas and New Year but I’m sure there will be some who enjoy the exercise like me and will still turn up on Thursday and Tuesday at 9-30 am to help control the festive season weight gain.
