Friends,
Advent and Christmas remind us of what is unchanging and enduring about the holiday season. One finds the meaning of Advent more in classic themes than in the latest holiday fads. Come prepare your heart and discover the joy of Christmas at Crenshaw UMC as we consider a story, a song, a symbol and a savior. Familiar music and timeless messages of the Bible will reacquaint us with the experience of God's love in the coming of Christ.
At your homes, make this advent season a special time of the year with your family. Advent is a great season to remember and reflect on the purpose of the birth of Jesus Christ. This advent I invite you to make it a prac-tice to spend some time each night in front of the Christmas tree or a candle or nativity scene, with your spouse and children, or by yourself in presence of God, and read aloud and ponder this greatest story ever told found in the Gospels.
I also encourage you to stay tuned and put on your calendar the Christmas events that you will find on the pages following and invite your friends and neighbors to these programs.
I personally invite you to join for these special Christmas programs that Crenshaw music ministry has planned that you don’t want ot miss:
Kids Christmas play “Star of Wonder on December 8th at 4 PM,
Lessons and Carols service on Sunday Dec 15th at 10 AM as we will worship through music.
“A Night in Bethlehem” on Dec 22 at 5PM.
And Christmas Eve Service on Dec 24th at 5PM
I also invite you to join for our advent sermon series “Gifts of Christmas” from Sunday Dec 1st. This series is based on James Moore’s book “All I Want for Christmas.” In this sermon series we will explore the amazing and life changing gifts that Christmas season brings to us. Join us with your friends, co-worker or neighbor to receive and unpack God’s gift. I will also lead a small group study on the same book and we will meet on Wednesday at 5:45 PM and Thursday at 10:00 AM starting from Dec 4th. You are welcome to join either of these two groups.
I wish you a very blessed Advent season!

ADVENT TREE: The Advent
"Missionary" tree will be up December
1. The donations from
this tree help support
our missionary Quynh-
Hoa Nguyen. Please fill
out the blanks on the
paper angels and place
on the tree and take an
angel off the tree as a remembrance of
your support for Quynh-Hoa. Once our
missionary commitment is made for
2019, donations will go to the Mission
Fund.
Once again this year we
will beautify our sanctu-
ary with lovely poinsetti-
as. As in the past, the
church will take care of
ordering and placing the
flowers. All you have to
do is put a $27 check in
the collection plate with “for poinsettia” in
the memo portion of your check. Sign the
list in the foyer indicating “in honor of” or
“in memory of”. Your Worship Committee
will take care of the rest. A portion of your
payment will go to our United Methodist
Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Disaster
Response and you may take your plant
home after the Christmas Eve Ser-
vice. We must have the order completed
by December 1.

Merry Christmas,
Christmas is not the same for kids as it was in my day or in the generation before
me. We got toys and stockings. But ours had to last all year except for birthdays.
Now new clothes, toys and candy are received on any day of the year. Although
receiving these things is still fun, we were especially grateful. I had to keep my stuff
in near “mint condition” to make it last. My cousins had more toys than they could
ever use. They got tired of them and were careless with them as they could always
get more. I am not jealous (anymore—ha ha). The greatest gifts were always the food and family. You
notice I put the food first. Back then we did not see how being together was as important as the other
Christmas food and gifts.
Being older now I see the true gift of Christmas. Of course it is Jesus. To say salvation is my greatest
gift is too simple. Isaiah 43:1-4 contains the true gift. “I’ve redeemed you.
I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you are in over your head I’ll be
there with you. When you are in rough waters, you will not go down. When
you are between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end. Because I
am God, your personal God, the Holy of Israel, your savior; I paid a huge
price for you. That’s how much you mean to me. That’s how much I love
you.” Thanks be to God for the gift of His son! On top of all that , we get the
great comforter--the Holy Spirit for our guide. We get the church and
Christmas music. I pray that I keep these gifts in mint condition and never
take them for granted.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
In the new year let us all seek God’s plans for our lives. Don’t just make a New Year’s resolution list.
In the past year I have been privileged to assist Crenshaw in impacting many lives. We have assisted
with medication, minimal utilities help, finding new housing, finding community resources, supporting
those who have had surgeries or deaths, supporting those who are dying and their families, visiting the
nursing homes and the shut ins, sending cards to the long distance members in facilities or living with
family members, helping Lifeline to detect health problems in people attending the health screening here,
trying to distribute clothing and toys to the disadvantaged areas, assisting members/family members find
alternate placement options due to aging and whatever God sends on a daily basis. We have planted
many seeds in the surrounding community. I could use two of me, but pray that I have met the majority
of the needs. I could do nothing without God and the Holy Spirit leading me. Thank you for all your help.
I will continue to seek God’s plan for my work and thank Him for allowing me to be a part of His amazing
plan of love for all!! Crenshaw church has made a difference in many lives and I make it known that God
alone is the source of their blessing!
