For this project you need at least 20" x 26" green felt, 21" x 32" white felt, 32" x 29" red felt, and scraps of red and brown felt. You will also need a sewing machine, spray adhesive, cut away embroidery stabilizer, the "Christmas Advent Calendar" design pack by Cactus Punch, repositionable, multi-use glue such as "Aleene's Tack it Over & Over", and embroidery thread for each design. STEP: 1 Stabilize white felt with a cut away backing. Embroider 24 versions of "Round Ornament" (CH3017) on white felt, and embroider a number 1- 24 on each ornament. Also embroider Tree Topper Ornament (CH3028) on the white felt. All designs, including numbers are part of the "Christmas Holidays 3 - Advent Calendar" pack by Cactus Punch. STEP: 2 Cut out each ornament, cutting the backing to size as you do so.

STEP: 1

Stabilize white felt with a cut away backing.Embroider 24 versions of "Round Ornament"

(CH3017) on white felt, and embroider a number 1-24 on each ornament. Also embroider Tree Topper

Ornament (CH3028) on the white felt. All designs,including numbers are part of the "Christmas

Holidays 3 - Advent Calendar" pack by CactusPunch.

STEP: 2

Cut out each ornament, cutting the backing to size asyou do so.

STEP: 3

Fold back a 14.5" width of felt and mark a 10 inchhorizontal base and 24" sloping side.

STEP: 4

Add curves for tree boughs, filling out the foldedwidth of the fabric at the base of the tree.

STEP: 5

Cut the tree out and unfold it.

STEP: 6

Lay the 24 ornaments out on the green felt tree tocreate a pleasing arrangement.

STEP: 7

Use the ornaments to mark placement for the surpriseChristmas designs. There will be one

surprise Christmas design per ornament.

STEP: 8Embroider 24 designs on the tree, each in a spotmarked in step 5. For an easy way to embroider onthe odd shapes of the tree bough's contours, see the"over-the-hoop" techniques.

STEP: 9

Cut a 21" x 12" rectangle from white felt.

STEP: 10

Cut 1/2" x 6" strips away from each of the 12" sides.This leaves a 1/2" seam allowance for the

ornament pockets.

STEP: 11

Decorate the 21" x 12" area of the white felt withscraps of red and brown felt, creating the look

of a tree trunk surrounded by presents.

STEP: 12

Fold up and close the sides of the decorated pocket.

STEP: 13

Attach the tree felt to the inside of the white pocketfelt.

STEP: 14

Cut a 32" x 28" rectangle of red felt for thebackground of your advent tree wallhanging.

STEP: 15

Use a spray adhesive to place the tree piece in thecenter of the red background.

STEP: 16

Using a matching thread and a zig-zag stitch, attachthe tree to the red background felt.

STEP: 17

With white thread, attach the back, bottom, and sidesof the pocket to the red background felt.

STEP: 18

Paint the stabilizer on the back of each of the 24 cutout ornaments with a re-positionable glue such asAleene's Tack it Over & Over. Allow the glue to dryclear.

STEP: 19

While you wait for the glue to dry, make four strips1" x 6" of red felt, and attach as loops to the

top of the wallhanging.

STEP: 20

Once the glue is dried, finger press each ornamentover the designs on the tree. Now for each

day of advent, remove an ornament to reveal theChristmas design beneath it. As each ornament

is removed, place it in the pocket at the bottom of thetree. For long-term storage, the glue

backed ornaments should be kept on a non-poroussurface such as vinyl or glass.
