Christian Visi or June 10, 2014 Volume 68 Issue 23 I was looking within my heart for inspiration to write this morning’s article. I was struggling to come up with anything. As I thought about inspiration I begin thinking about a conversation I had with one of our church families Sunday night. They were reading the Bible faithfully but where they were reading in the Old Testament wasn’t inspiring them. It wasn’t rising up a great amen in their soul. It wasn’t helping them to deal with their problems of today and in their own words maybe it wasn’t helping them grow in the Lord. In fact, maybe it was a waste of time. Should they go somewhere else to read? We talked more and came to the conclusion that maybe having our emotions inspired in ways that we can feel is not always the way God wants it to work. Maybe the Lord has us in that spot in the Bible so we can learn how God has interacted with His people over time. The funny thing was, as I met with someone else on Monday Morning they were reading in almost the same spot in the Bible and, like the person the night before, they were struggling to get anything from it. But then a light came on or should I say a spiritual revelation occurred. It dawned on them that the same God who was speaking with Isaiah was the same God who was speaking to him. Was there any big applicable teaching they could immediately apply to their lives? Not on the face of it but there was a great realization of who God was, is and forever will be. I wonder if sometimes we come to scripture more for what we can get out of it instead of who we get to meet. Maybe we have turned the Bible into a self-help book instead of the inspired Word of God which is given to us to lead us into God’s presence. When we are constantly looking for answers to our problems, our worries and our anxieties we miss out on meeting the Creator of the Universe. In the great teaching on anxiety found in Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus taught on this. The core of this teaching is found in verse 33. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.” In other words, seek Me and I will take care of the problems and concerns you have in this world. Maybe the Bible is first our guide to the Author who in turn leads us into a better and more blessed life. Thoughts to ponder. In much love, Pastor Darrel

I was looking within my heart for inspiration to write this morning’s article.

Great Expectations Class: Today’s Lesson was on “What We Work For.” Thank you to Doug & Connie Meyer who facilitated our lesson. We had several great discussion questions this morning. “What do you enjoy spending your money on?” Naturally at the age of our class most of us agreed…grandkids. Interesting right? “Who is the most generous person you’ve known? Why? To me that was an easy one to answer. As secretary for our church I see many ministries throughout our church and the people behind the scenes which make our church run smoothly. I am honored to work with one of those every day! Marilyn Artherton our Sr Adult Coordinator is one of those givers whose like the energizing bunny her giving just doesn’t run out. Whatever the need…rather it be a ride for someone to the Dr, visiting the homebound and nursing homes, praying, taking meals on wheels, picking up ones to come to church on Sundays, calling to say hello and how are you doing today...her list goes on and on. She is a faithful and cheerful servant of her TIME. The point we discussed is yes tithing is important however the giving of a cheerful giver in the way of your time is just as important. Reach out today by calling someone you haven’t talked to for awhile or send a card to someone who is hurting or visit our nursing homes. A friendly smile and warm touch is one of God’s most valuable gifts he has given us also and you will be so blessed in return. We have an awesome class! Have a blessed week!

Flag Day

Saturday

June 14,

2014

The Flag Day is celebrated to commemorate the

adoption of national flag of the United States of America, nicknamed Old Glory or Stars and Stripes. The day, i.e., 14th June, marks the anniversary of the official adoption of the American flag by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

The American flag, as we see it today, consists of thirteen horizontal red and white stripes, each representing the thirteen original colonies of the United States, and a blue rectangle with fifty white, five-pointed stars representing the 50 states of the Union.

Its design has undergone 26 modifications since it was adopted in 1777. Back then, the red and white alternating stripes did exist, but the number of stars in the blue rectangle was thirteen, and not fifty, as we see today.
