THINKING ABOUT

BECOMING CATHOLIC?

HAVE QUESTIONS?

WWWWWWWWWWWWhhhhhhhhhhhhoooo BBBBBBBBBBBBBeeeeeeeellllllllllloooooooonnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggsssssssss iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnn ttttttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeee

Common RCIA Terms: Catechumenate: the process of

formation leading to entrance into the

Catholic Church

Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism,

Confirmation, and Eucharist

Catechumen: an un-baptized person

who seeks entrance into the Church

Candidate: a person baptized in

another Christian tradition who seeks

full initiation in the Catholic Church.

How long is the Process? How does it work?

WHAT IS IT?

The RCIA is the process by which

men and women become members

of the Catholic Church. Because

the process is ongoing, people

begin whenever the Spirit moves

them to inquire.

The RCIA takes place within the

context of the parish community,

and after a suitable period of

formation, culminates in the

Sacraments of initiation. Formation includes:

Study of Sacred Scripture; form an

understanding of Church Teaching;

develop a personal Prayer Life;

participate in communal

celebration of the Mass, being sent

by Jesus to live and witness the

Gospel in the World!

At St. Joseph we are pleased to be using the Symbolon Video Series and Formation Program!

Fresh. Bold. Relevant. Symbolon: The Catholic Faith Explained features 20 video and

discussion sessions that brings together some of the most trusted Catholic teachers in the world to guide you through the breadth and richness of the Catholic faith.

RCIA at St. Joseph begins in September and

runs through the following Easter, but is

open for candidates year round.

We meet weekly on Thursday evenings from

7pm-8:30pm at St. Joseph in the Holy Family

Center 1. During the process of Christian

Initiation, men and women at all stages of the

faith journey come together in a non-

pressured atmosphere to learn more about the

Catholic Church.

During the sessions we always begin with

prayer followed by a brief video on the

discussion topic. After the video we gather

to discuss the topic and answer reflection

questions. We end with faith sharing and

prayer. The RCIA provides a forum for

shared spiritual growth, and a means to

explore the Catholic Christian tradition

through scripture, sacraments, teaching, and

social outreach, in the midst of our faith

community working with a team of sponsors.
