In the parable Jesus told about the two wayward sons and the Grace-Filled Father, we read that the Father threw a huge party for his sons, family and friends! (Luke 15:11-32) We’re throwing a huge party to celebrate the Father’s love, the Son’s grace, and the Holy Spirit’s power! Throughout the month of June, there will be celebration after celebration as we remember what only God can do and we celebrate 25 years of Telling the Story of the Good News of Jesus Christ!

On June 5th, we’ll be coming home to our family- our Christ UMC Church Family. Singing

and praising God; sharing testimonies of God’s grace; and remembering that God said, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) We will be reminded that the Resurrected Christ told us to go and share with others what we have seen and heard- tell how Christ has changed your life! Give testimony to His Transforming Grace!

We will give God the praise and thanksgiving for forming us into the Body of Christ here in Weaverville. The choir and praise team will lead us in singing and worshipping our Lord and we will break bread together, sharing in Christ’s Holy Meal. We’ll see a video presentation of the early years of the church and enjoy pictures of family and friends. Together, we will enjoy a Family Cookout with new and old family members, remembering that “there are no strangers here, only family we have not yet met.”

Rev Dottie Gibbs, who served Christ UMC from 1997 to 2004 will be our preacher on June 12th. We’ll celebrate Pentecost and the birthday of the church. There will be special music from our praise team and choir leading us to worship God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Father’s Day, June 19th, will be special as we celebrate how we continue to tell the Good News of Jesus Christ in our families and in the world. Our youngest worshippers, “Wee Worshippers”, will sing during the Children’s Message and our choir will sing “Therefore the Redeemed”. The church family will pray for and send out our Mission Team as they leave for Haysi, VA, immediately after the worship service.

Our celebration on June 26th will begin with a worship service of praise and thanksgiving.

Becky Brittain, wife of former pastor, Rev. Tim Brittain (1993-1997), will give testimony to the healing that she has received from our Lord.

At 5:00 PM on June 26th, we will gather outside for a Community Zoe Seed Concert. Everyone is invited to come and hear Zoe Seed and enjoy a free hotdog supper. Be sure to encourage your friends and family to come and invite youth to hear Christ’s message in song. We will also accept and appreciate donations for school supplies to be given at the free Back To School Clinic- Saturday, August 13th.

I look forward to seeing you at the celebrations! In Christ’s Amazing Grace, Pastor Naomi

What another incredible year at the preschool. Our last month was extremely busy with “Muffins for Moms”, the annual BBQ fundraiser and the Nature Center Field Trip. Before the BBQ supper, we held a yard sale in the morning and then the BBQ was served between 5-7pm. I would like to thank Catherine Cordell who helped get everything ready starting the evening before and Mr. Wayne Ingle and his wife. Mr. Wayne has been donating his time over the past several years and we are deeply grateful for his generosity. The preschool raised close to $900 and this money will go toward new learning materials for the classroom. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and those who made or sent in the many wonderful desserts. What an awesome church family we have! Our end of the year picnic was held at the Nature Center after our field trip. About 30 families came and we had great weather and the children got to run and explore many animals including the new cougar babies. We finished up the school year by having two graduation programs. On Wednesday, May 25th, our 2 and 3 year old classes put on a wonderful program at 11am.There was singing, prayers and a few surprises that always keep us laughing at these events. At any given time, one could look into the audience and see nothing but smiles, laughter and an occasional tear. It was adorable. The next evening, the four year old class took center stage. They recited the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the “Lord’s Prayer.” They sang a variety of songs, played the hand bells and talked about what they wanted to be when they grew up. Many decided they wanted to be an animal doctor. Following the procession and diplomas, we had a 10 minute power point presentation. Everyone loved the pictures and I would like to thank our 2 year old teacher, Ms. Tracy for putting it together. Once again, I look back and say “where did the time go?” We were blessed once again to have such wonderful children and parents. We had lots of help from church members during fundraisers and preschool board meetings. We had daily visits from Mr. Walt, story time with Ms. Linda, music with Ms. Carol and Ms. Sue and chapel time with Pastor Naomi. We will be back in a couple of weeks with our summer program. And for all the families that won’t be returning next year, we pray for a safe and fun filled summer. Good Luck to all the graduates! May God Bless everyone! With God’s Grace, Beth Stevenson, Director

A Touching Story Author Unknown

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100 yard dash. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy. They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back. Every one of them. One girl with Down’s Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, “This will make it better.” All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together. Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes. People who were there are still telling the story. Why? Because deep down we know one thing. What matters most in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What truly matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.

Like father, like child

As we celebrate Father’s Day, we likely see traits in our dads (or other father figures) that we hope to be known

for ourselves: integrity, gentleness, a great sense of humor, a love of learning, a humble spirit.

Amy Grant’s song “Father’s Eyes” tells of a young girl

who wants nothing more than for others to recognize her father — and her heavenly Father — in her. “When people look inside my life, I want to hear them say,

‘She's got her father's eyes.’”

What characteristics of God your Father are reflected in your eyes, heart and life? And what godly qualities

would you like to cultivate?

May others see our heavenly Father in us!

A Few Thoughts on the Lord’s Prayer I cannot pray OUR, if my faith has no room for others and their need.

I cannot pray FATHER, if I do not demonstrate this relationship to God in my daily living.

I cannot pray, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, if all my interests and pursuits are in earthly things.

I cannot pray, HALLOWED BE THY NAME, if I am not striving, with God’s help, to be holy.

I cannot pray, THY KINGDOM COME, if I am unwilling to accept God’s rule in my life.

I cannot pray, THY WILL BE DONE, if I am unwilling or resentful of having it in my life.

I cannot pray, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN, unless I am truly ready to give myself to God’s

service here and now.

I cannot pray, GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD, without expending honest effort for it, or

if I withhold from my neighbor the bread that I receive.

I cannot pray, FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS

AGAINST US, if I continue to harbor a grudge against anyone.

I cannot pray, LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, if I deliberately choose to remain in a situation

when I am likely to be tempted.

I cannot pray, DELIVER US FROM EVIL, if I am not prepared to fight evil with my life and my

prayer.

I cannot pray, THINE IS THE KINGDOM, if I am unwilling to obey the King.

I cannot pray, THINE IS THE POWER AND THE GLORY, if I am seeking power for myself and my

own glory first.

I cannot pray, FOREVER AND EVER, if am too anxious about each day’s affairs.

I cannot pray, AMEN, unless I honestly say, “Cost what it may, this is my prayer.”

As you already know, the Methodist Church was founded by John

Wesley. He didn’t really mean to start a new church. He just wanted people to take their faith more seriously.

The Cross and Flame The logo of The United Methodist Church is the Cross and Flame. The cross stands for Jesus Christ and the flame for the Holy Spirit. There are two flames to represent The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church, which together became The United Methodist Church in 1968.

John Wesley’s Rule

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can,

To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.
