From the depths we cry to Thee,
God of sovereign majesty!
Hear our prayers and hymns of praise;
Bless our Lent of forty days.
Gracious God, our hearts renew;
Strengthen us thy will to do.
Wash us, make us pure within;
Cleanse us from the stain of sin.
Lord, accept our Lenten fast
And forgive our sinful past,
That we may partake with Thee
In the Easter mystery.
--hymn by Alan McDougall and Owen Alstott

Rice Bowls This Lenten program offers opportunities
for your family to engage daily with the
spiritual pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and
almsgiving. It’s an opportunity for us as a
parish to come together and reflect on what
it means to live out our Gospel call to serve
the needy. Please take a Rice Bowl,
available on the table in the commons area,
and participate in this very important
program. Please be sure to return your Rice
Bowl on or before Palm Sunday

Seneca is hosting a fund-raising gala
Thursday, April 25 at 6:15pm at the
Rivermill Event Center. It will be an
unforgettable evening, with guest speaker
and Seneca’s founder, Kelly Tolman. The
meal is free; however, Seneca is asking
each attendee to cover the cost of their meal
at $40 per person. Any donation over that
amount would help the ministry continue to
offer its services for free to clients.
If you would like to attend, please see
Kim Anderson or
visit www.senecacfl.life to RSVP. You
can put “Kim Anderson” as your table
head.

*T*E*N*E*B*R*A*E* A Service of Shadows
Walking through scripture with Christ
toward his death.
“Tenebrae” also known as the Service of
Shadows, has been a part of the Roman Rite
for centuries. Originally, this ceremony took
the place in the late evening before or in the
early morning hour on Maudy Thursday or
on Good Friday as a service of prayer and
song commemorating the Passion of Jesus
Christ. Although the structure and style of
the Tenebrae Service has been modified
over the years in the Roman Rte and in
other Christian Rites, the gradual
extinguishing of the candles during the
service, symbolizing light to darkness,
remains the hallmark of Tenebrae.
Extinguishing the final candle symbolizes
the death of Christ. This is followed by a
loud noise or “strepitus” corresponding to
the convulsion of nature when Christ dies.
The return of the “Christ” candle
symbolizes the triumph of good over evil
and the Resurrection.
