The Memorial Committee is an important committee in our church. They are responsible for ensuring that memori-al gifts are properly recorded and acknowledged. They also report the available funds to the Church Council and ensure that a suggested list of memorial gifts be available when re-quested.

Byron Sims has agreed to chair this group and is asking for 2 or 3 volunteers to be on the committee. Some knowledge of church history would be helpful but it is certainly not re-quired.

Please let Byron know if you're interested in serving. His phone is 979-709-8525.

Due to Harvey, the September Tidings was put on hold. As we get back on track, we will send information out via email or post it in the Welcoming Area in order for everyone to stay updated. I apologize for any inconvenience—but I wanted to get out what I had! Thank you.

Even during the dog days of summer, things continue to grow. Water your garden of faith during Pentecost, “The Growing Season” of our church year, through November.

Looking Ahead!

September 3rd. We will return to ONE 9:00am service on Sunday mornings.

Our summer worship time has been enhanced by fun fellowship activities, which we’ve all en-joyed.

Coming together as the people of God on Sunday morning will be mighty special as we recon-nect in worship, song, prayer, and sharing the Holy Meal. Then, we are sent to serve!

BACK TO NORMAL!

Of course, that’s not only in reference to our returning to our one service, Sunday morn-ings at 9:00am. “Normal” has been escaping us as of late. However, there are blessings around us. We can look for them and count them. School will be starting—again. Recov-ery efforts will be ongoing as we’ve sent unwelcome Harvey on his way. Let’s turn our attention to Jesus and the lessons in our readings for September.

Sept. 3rd. Matthew 16:21-28 Last week we heard Peter proclaim that Jesus was the Son of God. This week, Jesus confirms his identity, then tries to explain to them why He was sent by the Father. It certainly wasn’t what the disciples wanted to hear. Suffering and death were no-where on their radar screen. Jesus also told them of his resurrection. Having seen his other mir-acles, perhaps that was more believable.

Sept. 10th. Matthew 18:15-20. Jesus’ lessons to the disciples continued. This week we hear of how often we should forgive, how to navigate the difficulties of reconciliation. Jesus then spoke to the disciples giving them the power to allow or forbid, and what they decided would also be done in heaven. And as a finale to this passage, Jesus told them where two or more were gath-ered in His name, there He would be also. That still holds true today.

Sept. 17th. Matthew 18:21-35. Often, when Jesus gave instructions to the disciples, Peter had questions. This time, he continued to ask about forgiveness, how often, and in what circum-stances. Jesus told them another parable of forgiveness of debts and how that should be done. Jesus was comparing forgiveness here on earth with God’s unlimited mercy.

Sept. 24th. Matthew 20:1-16. In this lesson, we go from how to forgive, to God’s ongoing gener-osity and how that should be implemented in our lives. This parable is a difficult one, as we al-ways want things to be “fair.” The same wages were paid to the workers regardless of the hours they worked. That was a tough one for the disciples—and for us to accept. Yet, it perfectly illus-trates God’s love, mercy and forgiveness.

Worship Opportunities

We have sign-up sheets for September and October on a table in the gathering area.

It’s a guessing game for Mary, our sweet secretary, to assign the folks needed to help worship ser-vices flow as they should. You know your schedule better than anyone else. Please look over these opportunities and sign up (as we do for potluck, Camp Hope, Pumpkin Patch. If you’d be comfortable being a reader, but perhaps hesitant to help with Communion, that’s fine. Just let Pas-tor know and that issue can be quickly resolved. And, do stretch and grow! Try something you’ve not done before. The “veterans” will be happy to lend a hand. We are to love and serve, and here’s a perfect opportunity!

Bread for Life Study Group

Bread for Life Study Group began in January, 2000.

If you can’t make it to Sunday School, but would like to learn more from the Bible, join us!

We meet Wednesdays from 11:30 – 12:30, in the church library.

August discussions will be from Paul’s letter to the Romans and from Philippians.

Oh, my! We have rousing, interesting, thought-provoking discussions. And when in doubt, we ask Pastor Paul for insight, or find some answers on Google as we discuss the upcom-ing epistle lesson. Copies of the appropriate study are usually on the library table. There is no leader, no test, nothing but great fellowship and discussion—and a bit of chocolate.

Camp Hope Reflections

Two things regarding Camp Hope should be mentioned. First, thank you for the wonderful turnout for Bueno Bingo and the taco dinner. We were able to put funds into our Camp Hope coffers. Sec-ondly, if you weren’t at the Camp Hope Saturday service, you missed it! Three of our staffers spoke of what Camp Hope has meant to them through the years. Two staffers have come since they were tots. Now, they’re off to college. One told us that her family had never been church-goers, and everything she had learned about Christ had been at CAMP HOPE! If ever you doubted the impact of Camp Hope, I hope this testimony resonates with you.

Adult Sunday School continues to gather after Sunday Worship. If you have any questions on joining this group, contact Pastor Paul.

Servant Ministry wants to thank everyone who supported our annual Rummage Sale. A big thank you to the workers for their energy and to all who donated the items that made the sale possible. As of this writing, we have made $2,700. $1,500 will go to our missionaries, and the remainder will be used for other projects. Again, thank you Without you, the sale would not be possible.

August was a busy month! There are so many people to “THANK” for all the day—I decided to dedicate this page to all of those who have been so helpful and generous! You are who makes

everything happen with success!

As usual our congregation has been busy with lots of good works. A good time was had by all at Bueno Bingo. We had some delicious food, had fun playing Bingo and raised $300 to go to-wards Camp Hope. The school supplies have been dropped off at Ney Elementary. Many thanks to those who donated school supplies. Ney was extremely appreciative of our efforts. A big thank you for everybody who donated goods and helped with the rummage sale. We had a banner year and raised $2,700. The money will go towards missionary support and there will be some left over for projects. We wish Linda and Walter Godspeed as they move to their new home in Ohio. Of course we can't rest on our laurels. Don't forget September 10th we have a barbecue fundraiser for Jeffrey Sims Eagle project. Pumpkin Patch is coming up soon and we will need all hands on deck.

Thank you for helping getting the word out & bringing friends to the recent benefit at Taco Cabana. The check for 20% of sales arrived & the amount is $174.70. A benefit is always about the money but the in-creased interest from the community has been an added bonus.

Thank you for all you & Christ Lutheran do for Live Oak. The clinic prospers due to support form people like you in our community.
