    A Glimpse on the Apostles

... 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after givinginstructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he hadchosen.

    (Acts 1:1-2 NIV)

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and tofellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and

signs performed by the apostles.44 All the believers were together and had everything incommon.

    A Glimpse on the Apostles

33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to theresurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfullyat work in them all34that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to

time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought themoney from the sales35and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyonewho had need.36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called

Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement"),37sold a field he owned and brought the money andput it at theapostles' feet.

A Glimpse on the Apostles12The apostles performed many signs and wondersamong the

people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon'sColonnade. 13No one else dared join them, even though they were

highly regardedby the people.14Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the

Lord and were added to their number.15As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them

on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some

of them as he passed by.

    16

Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringingtheir sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them

    were healed.

17Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of

the party of the Sadducees, were filled withjealousy.Act 5:12-17 NIV

    A Glimpse on the Apostles

18They arrestedthe apostles and put them in the publicjail.19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of

the jail and brought them out.20"Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people all

    about this new life."21

At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and hisassociates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin--the fullassembly of the elders of Israel--and sent to the jail for the apostles.22But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So

they went back and reported,23"We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the

doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside."

A Glimpse on the Apostles27The apostles were brought in and made to appear before the Sanhedrin to

be questioned by the high priest.28"We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you

have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us

    guilty of this man's blood."29

Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather thanhuman beings!30The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead--whom you killed

by hanging him on a cross.31God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might

bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God

has given to those who obey him."33When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.

A Glimpse on the Apostles8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.9But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is

made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladlyabout my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.10That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in

hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then Iam strong.11

I have made a fool of myself, but you drove me to it. I ought to havebeen commended by you, for I am not in the least inferior to the "super-apostles,"even though I am nothing.12 I persevered in demonstrating among you the marks of a true

apostle, including signs, wonders and miracles.13How were you inferior to the other churches, except that I was never a

burden to you? Forgive me this wrong!14 Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not be a

burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you. After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, butparents for their children.

    A Glimpse of the Prophets

27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part ofit.

28And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second

prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of

helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work

    miracles?

30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues1? Do all

interpret?31Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the

    most excellent way.

    A Glimpse of the Prophets

32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were

prophets, said much to encourage and

strengthenthe believers.33 After spending some time there, they were

sent off by the believers with the blessing of

peaceto return to those who had sent them.

    A Glimpse of the Prophets

27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.28If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and

speak to himself and to God.29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh

    carefully what is said.

30And if a revelationcomes to someone who is sitting down, the firstspeaker should stop.

31For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructedand encouraged.32The spirits of prophets are subjectto the control of prophets.
