Year 5 Singh Up At The 02... And Warhol!
On the 2nd
of February 2018, Year 5 went to the O2 to sing. I’m sure eve-
rybody, even Mrs James and Mr Martin, had a wonderful time.
Due to the whole of Year 5 practicing the songs, the coach ride was very
exciting. As we got off the coach, we all stared at the towering skyscrap-
ers, but when we laid our eyes on the O2 Arena, our eyes glistened with
amazement. Everyone was shouting “O2 in sight!” I couldn’t believe it, we
were at the O2, singing at Young Voices, 2018!
After a long journey on the coach, we started talking with our friends as we
started to get more and more hyper. With our stomach’s growling, we de-
cided to sit down and eat our delicious packed lunches.
Even though we had al-
ready practised, we had
even more rehearsals
with live music, dancers
and a conductor. Without
the lights I could already
feel people getting excit-
ed and they probably
would’ve gone mad by
the end of the show! I
still couldn’t get over the
fact that I was inside the
O2!
Eating my dinner just before the show I could feel vibes of excitement and
hype. It was just about to happen! We were going to sing at the 02 with
luminous lights shining all around the whole arena!
Halfway through the show The Urban Striders, a professional dance
group, did a lightsabre fight with lightsabres as bright as the lights in the
arena! Without doubt that was mine, and probably everybody’s favourite
part of the show.
When we saw our parents our hearts
lit up with joy to see them smile and
enjoy themselves.
By Jack, 5 Singh.
Miss Coton added that the evening
was great and she thoroughly enjoyed
it. Well done to everyone!

Year 1 Crane Flies Dazzle With Their Class Assembly!
On Friday, Year 1 Crane Flies performed their class assembly in front of
their parents/carers. The children all did brilliantly, displaying what they
had learnt including the story of the hungry caterpillar with the children
recounting their own versions of what the Caterpillar ate. Some of the
children showed off their musical skills, playing a tune on their recorders.
Thank you to Miss Lucas-Brown for putting the assembly together.

Year 4 Go All Roman
The Year 4’s who didn’t go to Hooke Court have been very creative at
school, making their own Roman Helmets, some very nice mosaics and
clay pots. Thank you to Mrs Cersosimo for organizing the activities.

World Book Day Dress Up 2018
World Book day this year is on Thursday 1st March. In previous corre-
spondence it has been down for Friday 2nd
March. To clarify, we will be
celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 1st March and we apologise for
the change of date.
As World Book Day falls on the day before Dr Seuss’s 116th Birthday, we
will be having a Dr Seuss theme in school! We invite children to come to
school dressed as their favourite Dr Seuss character and to take part in a
Dr Seuss treasure hunt around the school! Children are more than wel-
come to come to school dressed as any book character if they wish to,
provided children bring in the book in which their character is featured! All
children are welcome to bring in a favourite book of theirs (Dr Seuss or
not!) to share with their friends and teachers!
We look forward to seeing your fabulous costumes and sharing lots of
wonderful books together on Thursday 1st March! Remember “The more
that you read, the
more things you will
know. The more that
you learn, the more
places you'll go.”

Chess Tournament Success For Christ Church Pupils
We are delighted to let you know that our chess team of 6 (Johan, 3VG, Yifeng, 3VG, Kavin, 3M, Tharuni, 4P, Theo, 4P and Yichen, 4D) has achieved a resounding victory in their very first undertaking representing Christ Church Surbiton in the National Schools' Chess Champion-ship! Not only have we now qualified for the semi-finals that will take place in May, our team was also the highest scoring one across the U9 and U11 sections in the Chelmsford Zone competition. The team was in a such advantageous position that after the first three rounds of clean sweep, Christ Church Surbiton already secured a place in the semi-final and no other teams wanted to play us anymore!

Year 6 Enjoy Junior Citizenship Afternoon
On Tuesday, 30th January, Year 6 travelled to Chessington World of Adventures; not to go on the rides, but to take part in Junior Citizenship Afternoon. This is a session organ-ised by the Borough and is attended by year 6 pupils from across Kingston as part of their transition to secondary school.
The pupils attended short talks or scenarios run by a range of agencies including the police, fire brigade, ambulance, London buses, the tube and life boat service, as well talks about cyber-bullying and internet safety. The children were put into groups so they were not necessarily with their friends as well as working with pupils from St. Paul's School, Hook.
The children got an awful lot out of the afternoon and were a credit to the school. Sever-al of the professionals who were running the sessions commented on how polite and attentive they all were.
Many thanks to the PSA who funded the coach for this really worthwhile trip.
Request For Afterschool Club Donations
If you have any unwanted Barbies/Action men or Dressing up clothes at home then could
you please donate them to our Breakfast/Afterschool Club. Any donations can be brought
into the School Office, thank you.

Online Safety Evening
On Wednesday, 21st February Peter Cowley from Achieving For Children will be hosting a session in the hall for parents on keeping their children safe online. He will focus on the real risks posed to children and the practical steps that adults can take to protect children at home. Peter covers issues with social media and also grooming. It starts at 18:30 and lasts for approximate-ly one hour. Parents and Carers that have attended in the past have found it to be incredibly use-ful. Please inform the office if you wish to come and have not yet re-served your space.
Safer Internet day 2018
This year's Safer Internet Day (SID) celebrations took place on Tuesday, 6 February 2018. The 2018 theme, "Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you" is a call to action for every stakeholder to play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, in particular the youngest users out there. More than that, it is an invitation for everyone to join in and en-gage with others in a respectful way in order to ensure a better digital experience.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL ACCESS AFTER HALF
TERM
To further increase security at our school and to further safeguard your children, the following will be in place after half term:
1. All school gates will be opened in the morning at 8.40am until 9am and after
school from 3.15pm to 3.40pm.
2. Children arriving for a before school activity club, including the Sunrise /
Breakfast Club: from 7.45am to 8.30am press ‘2 and the bell button’ and
from 8.30am onwards press ‘1 and the bell button’ for the office, to gain ac-
cess either via the Manor Drive or Pine Garden entrances and close the
gate securely behind them.
3. All children and parents should exit the grounds promptly at the end of the
day so that security of our extended day care can be robust. No one should
be playing on the MUGA before or after school unless in an organised club.
4. There will be no access during the day (between 9am and 3.15pm) via the
Manor Drive entrance. On all occasions the main entrance in Pine Gardens
should be used. We cannot have visitors wandering through the school un-
supervised.
5. When bringing children to and collecting from the Sunrise or Sunset Clubs
please do not walk through school. Access should be through the door to
the hall from the KS1 playground.
6. When collecting from the Sunset Club you will not be allowed access to the
rest of the school, for example to collect something from the class your child
has left behind.
7. All adults helping in school or on trips must have an up to date DBS.
8. On no account should the school gates be ‘fixed’ open and should be closed
behind you in entry or exit, if someone follows you in, please check that you
know who they are and the office has seen them.
In addition, parking in Pine Gardens has become very unsafe for our children.
Parents are trying to park so close to school many are blocking access for every-one. Cars reversing are becoming dangerous to pedestrians due to the tight spac-es and lack of visibility.
PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF OR PARK IN THE CUL DE SAC!
I do understand that this may cause you some inconvenience but please remem-ber we are tightening security to ensure all your children remain safe.
Yours sincerely
Miss Tracey L Coton
