A Commission-
accredited organization can choose either of two
roads to maintain its accredited
status
Sequence for AQIP process
• attend Strategy Forum and commit to Action Projects, annually updated
• prepare public Systems Portfolio
• receive actionable feedback report from Portfolio Appraisal team
• request reports or site visits on specific improvement issues (if desired)
Are you ready?• Is your institution willing to make the
investment of effort necessary to focus on continuous quality improvement?
• Is your institution's agenda free from the distractions that would prevent it from paying attention to quality improvement?
• Does your institution understand how continuous improvement differs from “business as usual”?
• Have you identified some prospective targets for Action Projects?

PEAQ (traditional procedure) vs. AQIP
Criteria require institution to provide evidence under 5 broad categories
AQIP Criteria ask probing questions about processes, results, and improvement for 9 critical institutional systems
Visiting team identifies concerns that require response
Institution identifies Action Projects that drive improvement
May require focused visits or monitoring reports on specific concerns
Action projects crafted to address institution’s concerns and priorities
PEAQ (traditional procedure) vs. AQIP
Self-study and site visit can constitute sole event in 10 year cycle
Annual+ interaction with Commission during 4 year cycle
New self-study Report created for each comprehensive visit
Concise Systems Portfolio created once and then updated annually
Institutions not meeting minimum expectations placed on probation or lose accreditation
Institutions not continually improving return to PEAQ procedure
PEAQ (traditional procedure) vs. AQIP
No differences
• Same dues
• Same organizational indicator report
• Same policies (federal compliance, institutional change, complaints, etc.)
Comparative costs/benefits
PEAQ
• Self-study process
• Comprehensive team visit
• Focused visits or reports
AQIP
• Strategy Forum
• Feedback on Action project updates
• System Portfolio Appraisal feedback
Other Cost Issues
• Costs of not identifying waste, improvements, and efficiencies
• Costs of not seizing new opportunities
• Costs of not crafting an organizational culture that helps the institution succeed
• Cost of standing still while the competition moves ahead
