Choir News!

Let’s Fill The Bins! Everyone wants to live in a healthy community, where children, families and seniors can grow, work, prosper and lead healthy, productive lives. Research shows that access to nutritious food is the key to a healthy community, where children do well in school, families thrive and seniors are not choosing between buying food and other necessities. Providing nutritious food, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, in underserved areas improves the community’s health and its economic vitality. Food insecurity contributes to poor health, lower productivity and higher medical costs. In adults, poor nu-trition can lead to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depres-sion and fatigue. Let’s fill the bins in our church! There is one located at the south entrance and there is one in the narthex.

Choir is for you! Do you enjoy listening to the choir on Sunday mornings? Have you ever wanted to be a part of

that ministry? I would like to invite you to come give it a try! As a musician and teacher for many

years, I have a passion for helping others find their own love of music through a variety of ways and I’m certain that your love of music will translate

into a beautiful experience with the choir at WPPC.

The choir is full of wonderfully talented people who are rewarding to work with and are often the

highlight of my week! Please do not worry about any lack of training in voice. I love teaching and

am willing to help you find your voice with our

group. We welcome anyone for Wednesday night rehearsals beginning September 10. If you have had

any thoughts about singing with us, but are still un-sure, I would love to talk to you! Please feel free to

Our response to God’s gifts is to give back to God, not because of guilt or pressure, but because we are grateful and want to demonstrate God’s character to the world. Giving back is a way we allow God’s love, mercy and justice flow through us to others. We give back when we follow Jesus’ example in our daily lives—loving the un-lovable, extending mercy to the undeserving, sharing our faith and standing up for the weak. Preschool News

We are so excited to start our 49th year of pre-school! The patter of little feet has already begun in

our hallways!

Smiles, hugs, and welcomes have greeted our preschoolers and families. Our families have no-

ticed a new look for our preschool. Our classrooms are now identified by colors-blue, yellow, green, orange and purple! Colored flags above the doors

help everyone know where to go! Our office has also moved. We enjoy our new space and particu-

larly like being so close to the preschool doors and playground. We have a busy and fun month ahead.

July Session Notes Operation Christmas Child

Clerk’s Report: Connie Happell and Mardy Cottrell

attended the July 12th meeting of Heartland Presbytery

at Covenant Church.

Treasurer’s Report: Tom Stewart now fills the po-

sition of treasurer and has sent a report to the Session

that our financial position is still strong and positive.

Pastor’s Report: Connie plans to train deacons to

serve communion. The Scholarship Committee has

approved scholarships from the Andrews Scholarship

Fund for $86 each for Brian Happell, Barnett Rucker

and Ben Rucker. An insurance claim filed to cover the

repairs needed for recent flooding in the south build-

ing has been denied and we will need to pay the $8000

restoration cost. An active elder needs to chair the

Nominating Committee. Election of new officers will

be held the first Sunday in November.

Lynne Crossette suggested that Ward Parkway host

a meeting of Heartland Presbytery in 2015. Mardy and

Lynne will discuss this with Heartland and report

further information at the August meeting.

Pastor Happell will be on vacation August 11-17.

Craig Babb will preach on the 17th

Rev. Charles Spencer (Heartland Presbytery Execu-

tive) will preach on stewardship on September 14.

Laura (Clarke) Steffen and Bob Steffen will reaf-

firm their wedding vows on August 22nd as they cele-

brate their 25th anniversary. Pastor Connie will lead

this worship service.

Noelle Stoffel has asked if the church would be in-

terested in preparing shoe boxes for Operation Christ-

mas Child. The session approved the idea and Pastor

Connie will talk with Noelle about getting a leader-

ship team together.

Council Reports:

Fellowship and Hospitality: Lynne Crossette

Bids received for interior and exterior signage are

over budget so the cost will be included in the 2015

budget.

Christian Education-James Lusk

VBS: Lynne reported that next year’s budget for VBS

ought to be $750.

Stewardship -Jim Durig

Jim Durig suggested that Tom Stewart, Jim Durig and

Connie talk to congregation about stewardship.

Personnel -Steve Nelson

Steve reported that staff performance reviews will be

carried out on August. The Personnel Committee is

rewriting the Sexual Misconduct Policy to comply

with our insurance company requirements.

Other business: - Preschool Director Kim Manford

has asked that the door to Room 3 be changed to a

Dutch door.

Get ready to pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child! Operation Christmas Child is a

worldwide ministry that shows God’s love in tan-

gible ways to needy children and shares the Good

News of Jesus Christ. We will fill empty shoeboxes with gifts of toys, school supplies, hygiene items

and notes of encouragement. You can participate in this ministry by: packing a shoebox, get together with others to assemble boxes, or make a monetary

donation so that our youth can purchase shoe box items and pack boxes. On Sunday, November 16,

we will have a “blessing of the boxes” during wor-ship. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has

delivered more than 100 million gift-filled shoe-

boxes to children in more than 100 countries on six continents.

HOW TO PACK A SHOEBOX

Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the age category.

Fill the box with a variety of gifts. Include $7 Donation per box to cover

shipping and other costs. Pray for the children who will receive your

shoebox gifts.

GIFT SUGGESTIONS

Small toys: dolls, toy cars, stuffed animals,

kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise.

School Supplies: pens, pencils and sharpen-

ers, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, so-lar calculators, coloring and picture books.

Non-liquid Hygiene items: toothbrushes,

bar soap, combs, washcloths.

Accessories: t-shirts, socks, hats, sunglass-

es, hair clips, jewelry, watches.

A Personal note: If you include your name

and address, the child may be able to write you back.
