TRANSCRIPT
We promise that, should we reduce the Vantage Fare for a holiday you have already booked (for
your cruise and cabin type with the same terms and conditions), we will pass on the value of the
reduction to you automatically in the form of a complimentary benefi t such as on board spending
money or a cabin upgrade. If, however, fares for your holiday should rise after you have made your
booking, and they may, you can rest assured that you have received excellent value by booking
early – so both ways you win.
P&O CRUISES PRICE PROMISE
The Price Promise applies to Vantage Fares published by P&O Cruises, where the Vantage Fare on a holiday you have already booked has been reduced, and the new Vantage Fare applies to the same cruise and grade of cabin, sold under the same terms and conditions (such as the deposit and cancellation terms and whether it is possible to select a cabin number). The complimentary benefi t applied shall be at the absolute discretion of P&O Cruises. The Price Promise does not apply to our Getaway Fares, holiday add-ons, nor where P&O Cruises is not the tour operator selling the holiday. Complimentary benefi ts are non-refundable and non-transferable. Cancellation fees are assessed on the original price of your booking. Peninsular Club fare discounts will continue to be offered but the resultant fare is not classed as a reduced Vantage Fare. If you are a Peninsular Club member your on board discount applies after all on board spending money has been used.
Our Vantage Fares include one of the following benefi ts. Simply select which you feel
would enhance your holiday the most:

seductive blend of iconic
sights and scenery

R2505 - Med Mailer.indd 6R2505 - Med Mailer.indd 6 18/09/2012 15:2818/09/2012 15:28
Welcome to our Central Mediterranean
collection. This is a region of the world
to be savoured and these leisurely 17–21
night journeys bring iconic destinations
and sights that are certain to linger in
your memory.
The romance of the region is undeniable –
Venice is a highlight on these itineraries and
its traffi c-free streets, concealed piazzas and
ornate bridges are easy to lose yourself in,
and lose your heart to. Hop into a water taxi
to acquaint yourself with its glittering canals
and the beautifully crumbling facades of
its hotels and houses or treat yourself to a
traditional gondola ride to experience a mode
of transport that is thought to have existed in
the city since 1094.
Another distinctive city is Dubrovnik;
wandering its 12th century walls is a little
like stepping back in time – originally built
to defend the city, today its walls offer
spectacular views of the city’s orange roofed
dwellings and harbour. If you’ve visited the
city before you might like to travel a little
farther afi eld for a taste of traditional Croatian
life. A drive along the Adriatic coastline brings
you to the village of Orasac, where, in the
setting of a traditional Croatian house you can
sample some homemade cheese, smoked
ham and wine, while a stop at Ston reveals
more magnifi cent walls and Ston’s are said to
be the second longest in Europe.
Another Croatian gem comes in the form
of Korcula. A great place to explore by foot,
its stone paved streets reveal a variety of
architectural styles, allowing you a glimpse
into its rich history. A Greek island may
grace your itinerary too - Corfu’s inviting
turquoise waters and tucked away beaches,
or Cephalonia’s lush countryside, vineyards
and cypress glades, providing the perfect
introduction to laid-back island life.
Korcula Croatia As the reputed birthplace of that great explorer Marco
Polo, the Croatian island of Korcula is a must-see for any
cruise traveller. Its medieval Old Town, which juts out
into the Dalmatian archipelago between Dubrovnik
and Split, is surrounded by 14th century stone walls and
contains a succession of narrow streets. A fascinating
place to explore, the Old Town has numerous gothic,
Renaissance and baroque palaces, monuments
and galleries.

Dubrovnik Croatia
Sailing into the beautiful 12th century Croatian walled city of
Dubrovnik is one of life’s great experiences. The spectacular
Old Town, with its pretty harbour, towering ramparts, creamy
stone pavements and red-roofed buildings, is crammed with
architectural wonders. Visit too, the magnifi cently gothic
Sponza Palace and the 18th century baroque Church of
St. Blaise, Dubrovnik’s patron saint.
Corfu Greece Corfu is one of the most popular Greek islands for
good reason. Head inland, through heavily-scented pine woods,
and you will fi nd tiny villages where only Greek is spoken and
time appears to have stood still. And the capital, Corfu Town,
is Greece’s largest ‘living’ medieval town. The stand-out is the
Venetian-built Old Fortress, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
For the best beaches, head for Paleokastritsa or Glyfada.

Venice Italy
Venice is easy to explore by vaporetto (water-bus) or on foot. Or why not take
our Venetian Island and gondola tour to capture the romance of this wonderful
city? To see some of the main sights you can start from St. Mark’s Square, with
its ancient Basilica, lavish Doge’s Palace and imposing bell tower, then follow
signs for the shop-lined Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs. But wherever you
walk, there are intriguing arty shops, museums and galleries.Venice

10 Western Mediterranean
Cannes France The old town (Le Suquet) boasts a medieval church,
castle and narrow streets full of interesting shops and
cafés, but everyone really wants to stroll fi rst along
Promenade de la Croisette. Everything that has made
Cannes a haunt of the rich and famous is here: deluxe
hotels, smart casinos, stylish boutiques, trendy art
galleries and marinas packed with lavishly out-fi tted
mega-yachts. If you’d like to explore the surrounding
area and its glorious coastlines further Nice, Monte
Carlo, Cap d’Antibes, St Tropez and the medieval
village of St. Paul-de-Vence are also nearby.

The Western Mediterranean is a fascinating
region, and particularly easy to get to. All of
our cruises sail round trip from Southampton,
so your holiday begins even before you leave
the UK. The holidays featured sail from April
to June 2013 and, with fares starting from
just £71 per person per night, offer a great
way to explore this stunning area in comfort
and style.
Cultural capitals, stunning coastlines, iconic
sights and inviting beaches - the Western
Mediterranean has something to capture
everyone’s imagination. From soaking up
the sunshine along with the history, vibrant
architecture and art, to enjoying the sun-
infused cuisine and wines of the region, you’ll
fi nd every day can be different.
The cities of Spain loom large – lively tapas
bars, fi ery fl amenco dancers and Moorish
architecture presenting a beguiling blend
of old and new. Touring its cities you might
admire the surreal artistry of Gaudi’s creations
in Barcelona, wander the cobble-stone streets
of the enchanting hill-top town of Mijas (from
Malaga) or take the opportunity to sample
some local sherry and see the Spanish-
Andalusian horses perform their spectacular
show in Jerez (from Cadiz).
Another destination that might appear on
your itinerary is Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.
You can travel here from the port of Palau,
this beautiful region has been dubbed the
‘Emerald coast’ due to the vibrancy of its
waters and has long attracted the jet-set - its
charming coves now backed by villas and
luxury hotels. France beckons too, the yacht-
fi lled harbours of Cannes, St. Raphael and
St. Tropez giving way to elegant
promenades and chic boutiques to enable
you to immerse yourself in the very essence
of the French Riviera.
A few cruises even venture to the glitz and
glamour of Monte Carlo, the piazzas and
fountains of Rome and the laid-back charm
of Napoleon’s birthplace in Corsica’s Ajaccio,
while many return to the UK via the British
enclave of Gibraltar – the perfect place to do
some tax-free shopping before arriving home.

Standing in the Colosseum, visiting the Vatican City
and tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain are all unique
once in a lifetime experiences to be had in the Eternal
City of Rome. The city’s other must-sees include
the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon (probably the most
complete ancient Roman building in the city) and the
Sistine Chapel, home to Michelangelo’s masterpieces.
The Piazza Navona is one of the most famous and
arguably the most beautiful of Rome’s many squares,
boasting three magnifi cent fountains – including
Bernini’s ornate ‘Fountain of the Four Rivers’ – and
the baroque church of Sant’Agnese in Agone. While
steeped in history, Rome is also a modern, bustling
city with modern designer shops and chic boutiques
at every turn.

Barcelona Spain Barcelona provides a vivid mix of ancient and
modern, but is probably best known for the bizarre
architecture of Antonio Gaudi, in particular the
iconic Sagrada Familia, Europe’s most extraordinary
– and still unfi nished – cathedral. From Barcelona’s
Old Port area , it is an easy stroll up the famous Las
Ramblas to the Old Town. This street is thronged
with entertainers, stalls and bars and is most lively
at night and weekends. Not to be missed is the La
Boqueria food market with its extraordinary displays
of fi sh, meat, fruit and vegetables.

Valencia Spain Vibrant Valencia, Spain’s third-largest city, is a
popular and picturesque resort. Amongst art
and architecture you can see plazas, palaces,
churches and cathedrals, before heading to one of
the city’s white sandy beaches to cool off. Inside
Valencia’s cathedral you can climb the octagonal
Miguelete Bell Tower to see sweeping views. From
here navigate the narrow streets to the Plaza del

Florence (from Livorno) Italy Founded in the 16th century, Livorno remains a
busy port and town. Its centre, which is walkable from
the port, has some pretty bars, cafés and classy shops,
but many of Livorno’s visitors head straight for
Florence. This elegant city is compact enough to be
walkable, and with the Arno River running through it,
you should be able to keep your bearings fairly easily.
Be certain to visit the Uffi zi Gallery and cross the gold
and silver merchants-lined Ponte Vecchio on your way
round the many attractions of this startlingly beautiful

Opt to sail a little further from home and you
come to the sun-baked lands of the Eastern
Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Site of
the Holy Land and once home to ancient
civilisations that have left their mark with
enduring landmarks such as the theatres and
temples of Athens and Ephesus, this has to
be one of the most culturally rich parts of
the globe.
Embark on a 20 to 24 night adventure to the
Eastern Mediterranean and you’re in for an
exciting and enriching few weeks. Kusadasi is
your gateway to Ephesus - once the glorious
Roman capital of Asia Minor – while a call at
Katakolon leads you to the sights of Olympia,
birthplace of the Olympic games, thought to
have started in 776 BC, when they featured
combat and chariot racing events in addition
to athletic events. The Holy Lands meanwhile
– accessible from Israel’s ports of Haifa and
Ashdod – bring you the sights of Galilee,
Nazareth, Jerusalem and Bethlehem; a place
of sacred pilgrimage for many.
If you’re lucky enough to be calling at Istanbul
you’ll fi nd it a fascinating city. 3,000 years
old and spanning two continents, its many
noteworthy sights include the towering Blue
Mosque, the Topkapi Palace (the primary
residence of Turkey’s Ottoman Sultans for
over 4000 years) and its Grand Bazaar – a
warren of narrow streets so packed with stalls,
shops, restaurants and artisans’ workshops
that it proves an immersive experience for
the senses.
You’ll fi nd this small selection of cruises
features some fairly unusual cruise ports,
making them perfect for the experienced
cruiser. From visiting Izmir’s ancient Agora,
built in Roman times, to touring Yalta’s Grand
Palaces or exploring Odessa’s catacombs (an
intricate labyrinth of underground corridors
which run for 1,500 miles beneath the
city), these lesser-visited destinations are an
unexpected highlight for many.

Istanbul Turkey
Magical Istanbul – 3,000 years old, spanning two
continents and a crucible of cultures where east
meets west – is a key Turkish port. If this is your fi rst
visit, a tour of the main sights is a good introduction
to the city’s treasures, which include the world-
famous Blue Mosque, the vibrant old city, the Grand
Bazaar (a warren of narrow streets containing more
than 4,000 shops, stalls, restaurants and artisans’
workshops) and the Topkapi Palace, famed for its
jewels, but which also has spectacular gardens.

Lisbon Portugal
Some of the best views of the Portuguese capital
come as you sail along the Tagus River, passing
the Belem Tower, Jerónimos Monastery and the
‘Monument to the Discoveries’. This city does
sprawl a little so you would do best to concentrate
on three districts – Baixa, Bairro Alto and Alfama,
each with its own distinctive style. Baixa has busy
streets of inviting shops, cafés and restaurants
while Alfama is the atmospheric old town. Bairro
Alto is another historic district with narrow streets
and it is a steep climb from Baixa so look out for
the 100-year-old lift (Elevador do Carmo) near
Rossio Square. Be sure to try the Portuguese sweet
delicacy of Pastéis de Nata – small freshly baked
custard tarts that are said to have originated in
Lisbon – and a strong, sweet coffee.Yalta Ukraine
A mixture of medieval and modern history makes
Ukrainian Yalta one of the most stimulating calls on any
Black Sea itinerary. Its medieval past literally stares you
in the face with the imposing and turreted Swallow’s
Nest castle overlooking the port, but there’s nothing
quite like a visit to the White Palace of Livadia to evoke
memories of one of the most important events in
modern history. Built in Italian Renaissance-style for Tsar
Nicholas II in 1911, this was where Roosevelt, Stalin and
Churchill met towards the end of World War II to draw
up their controversial map of post-war Europe.
