more of the design concept has been revealed a longer bonnet and a sportier front bumper are just some of the new additions to the model which is a toned down

version compared to the concept car The high back has been replaced with a lower roofline and a steep rear screen Gaging from the spy shots the taillights resembles the concepts boomerang-shaped rear lamps There are no changes to the back with the central twin exhaust pipes from the concept remaining the same suggesting that this could be a quicker Type S model

Chief designer of Genevarsquos concept has now sat down for an early interview to find out about the upcoming 10th generation Hatchback Although the Honda Civic concept car presented here is solely for modelling purposes we get a good idea of how the new model will look when it hits showrooms in February next year

According to Principal designer Diasuke Tsutamori ldquothis prototype is already in a very close level to mass production When you see the final car you will probably think itrsquos still the prototyperdquo

design was not visible to make comments on Tsutamori suggested earlier that the new car will offer practicality and versatility on a par with its closest rivals The new car is 30mm wider 2mm lower and 13mm longer than the current car Bosses assure us the large wheels and long wheelbase of the prototype will remain hinting at a sportier yet roomier family hatchback

The show car is without engine either though Honda has confirmed the production car will be the first in its range to feature the new 10 and 15 litre VTEC turbo engines along with a heavily revised 16 litre I-DEC diesel

Itrsquoll be built at the brandrsquos manufacturing facility in Swindon UK and confirms a pound215m investment in new technology and processes that will be in place when the car goes into production later this year

Will Honda update the Civic Type R as well

Tsutamori has hinted that Type R is under consideration as ldquothe civic hatchback has enough material and talent in order to make a Type R out of itrdquo The car will be inspired by the US -market Civic coupe adding a pair of doors and a useful hatchback at the rear

The next generation Civic Type R was caught going under testing at the Nuumlrburgring so expect the car to emerge by 2017 and to be sold on both European and US soil

shanghai chinaThe cars showed flashes of pace throughout the weekend both drivers able to push hard inside the top 10 we finished the Chinese Grand Prix just out of the points ndash in 12th (Fernando Alonso) and 13th (Jenson Button)

Both cars ran flawlessly on every session Fernando completed his first race distance of the season and the team learned a great deal more about the vehicles strengths and weaknesses

Yusuke Hasegawa - Honda RampD head of F1 project amp executive chief engineer said

ldquoThroughout the eventful weekend of changing weather conditions and qualifying red flags the drivers and the team have performed at their best and it was a positive weekend to bring two cars home We are obviously disappointed that we could not score points but I think the race result is a good indication of where we currently are The entire team did solid work today which will hopefully lead to better results in the future racesrdquo

McLaren-Honda have faced a difficult start of the season that has shown a number of improvements to the vehicle compared to the 2015 season The season headed to Shanghai for the Pirelli Chinese Grand Prix on the 15th-17th April

sochi russiaBoth Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button opened their 2016 points-scoring in the Russian Grand Prix finishing in sixth and 10th place respectively

For the midfield runners the shape of the race was largely dictated by a pair of chaotic clashes at Turn Two and Turn Three on the opening lap These incidents saw several drivers either forced into retirement pushed to the tail of the field or served with penalties

Fernando profited from the carnage to vault into the top 10 ndash an advantage he tenaciously held onto until the finish Jenson was more circumspect at the start dropping behind a number of slower cars then spending much of the remainder of the afternoon steadily chipping away to jump back into the top 10

The result was a reminder of the progress thatrsquos quietly being made at McLaren-Honda and a firm indicator of the potential to come

ldquoThe car felt good all race ndash obviously we were saving fuel at some points of the afternoon but on one lap I just decided to go for it ndash to wake myself up a little bit ndash and the lap-time showed the potential is there

ldquoFinishing in the points should be our regular target from now onrdquo said Alonso

The championship now heads back to Europe to Barcelona Spain for the next F1 Grand Prix

Halfords Yuasarsquos impressive start to the 2016 season continued in April They finished the month controlling the top two places of the driversrsquo standings and also leading the Constructors championship

Two races took place in April with the first one being on the 02nd ndash 03rd April at Brands Hatch This was a very successful weekend for the team scoring its first one-two of the season with Gordon lsquoFlashrsquo Shedden leading home team-mate to victory

The fantastic performance continued for Honda into the months second racing weekend on the 16th-17th April at Donnington Park Halfords Yuasarsquos Matt Neal made it six winners from six Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races in 2016 leading a second one-two finish for Honda in the final race of the weekend Neal moved back into the championship lead with his win his first of the season to ensure

six different winners from the first six races What a result

The championship will be next stopping at Thruxton on the 07th ndash 08th May

With the NSX only months away we thought we would give you a guide on how Honda will build each of the 10 NSXs that roll out of its US factory every day

16 STEPS TO BUILD A SUPERCAR - PART 1

metals All metals for the NSXrsquos aluminum spaceframe are conveniently delivered to the factory already shaped but the frame itself is welded on site on one of three robotic welding booths

consistency To ensue consistency the weld booths are robotised and Honda claims its NSX chassis are welded to within 01mm accuracy The way the NSX spaceframe comes out of the booth is the way itrsquos built

weldingHerersquos a completed welded space frame all made with steel instead of the aluminum A-pillars they have to be bolted rather than welded in place and they are coated to resist corrosion

precision There is a static machine in the middle of the factory that ensures each body has been assembled accurately within an accuracy of 30 microns - less than the width of a human hair Honda also has two portable ones that can take to the factory floor measuring to within an accuracy of 50 microns

Dip Once checked the bodies are off to be dipped before theyrsquore coated and painted There are six tanks like this itrsquos a pretty industrial-looking process - the noisiest in the factory - but Honda claims most of the liquid is recycled

Human Most of the NSXrsquos body panels are painted by robots with around four gallons of paint - in up to 11 coats - making it onto the body Some parts are painted by the human hand such as the front grilles which arrive finished as black plastic but are then painted black again mysteriously

Chassis While the body is being painted the hand assembly of each chassis begins in the kind of order you might expect Electronics and hardware first with the interior coming towards the end

torque Every nut and bolt is tightened to a pre-set torque by a wrench thatrsquos wired up to a computer So if anything goes wrong in future Honda will know where when and to what torque setting anything was tightened and whether other cars might be affected in the same way

Engine The NSXrsquos engine is also built in the US but not in the same plant as the car Itrsquos a similarly labour-intensive process though which culminates in each 35-litre twin-turbocharged V6 sitting on a test rig undergoing a 45-minute testrunning-in cycle

install With the exception of the application of sealant Honda uses few robots it uses controlled human hands to install engines in the chasis taking around 62 minutes

bodyAfter the mechanicals comes the body fitment Honda starts with one door then fits another panel and chases the gaps around the previous panel and so on

patents Honda has filed for 12 patents around the NSXrsquos build process six of which are in quality control After the body has been fitted the car is pretty much finished now a serious proofing process starts

AlignmentThe car is raised on a jig so that the wheel tyre alignment and ride height are checked

weight After being aligned every NSX has its corner weights tested to make sure everything is where it should be

Checks Each NSX is raised on a ramp for an underbody check in order to make sure nothing has come undone during the dyno test It takes two minutes each for a dyno test on a single car on a roller

inspection Finally the paint is inspected for imperfections after the paint check itrsquos into a water spray booth to check for leaks and then the completed NSX is out of the door
