On the basis of the logo of International CODATA, we designed the logo for Chinese National Committee for CODATA.

Activities and Achievement From the beginning of Eighty of last

century, we began to prepare to join CODATA. And in the meanwhile the CAS started its scientific database making project. National planning Commission and Science & Technology Commission support us.

Based on the database work started, CAS on behalf of China applied to enter into the international CODATA and pay attention to the data organization work.

To promote the data logging, assembly, standardize, computer treatment. Help to set up the computer platform for data processing

Help to organize the data evaluation, database processing, data quality control work

Help to organize national scale database and database system setting up, promote and encourage the sharing of database system

Activities and Achievement

In 2000 China CODATA and USA CODATA organized twice conferences to exchange scientific information

In 2000 March USA CODATA hosted a meeting in Washington,D.C.) and in 2000 December Chinese CODATA hosted a same meeting in Beijing.

On those meeting we both introduced a lot of working experiences, discussed a series of measures to set up cooperation. We selected several fields e.g. nature sciences, environment science, and earth science etc., in which some items had been set up and the feasibility of those items had been studied.

This year 2004 is the 20th annual to enter CODATA, and there are many results in the field of scientific data activities. The most important contribution for Chinese CODATA is to set up constant and tight connections with our counterparts throughout the world.

With the 21 century coming, the requirements to scientific information will be more and more. We are sure data sharing policy will be implemented both in our country and also the developed countries.

In the meanwhile, our scientific data workers will face challenges both from the computer technology development and social requirements. We fully understand what it means. Chinese CODATA will be growing up simultaneously.
