Giant pandas are among the most beautiful and rare animals in the world.
Giant pandas love to play.
Giant pandas can spend up to 16 hours eating bamboo.
Giant pandas can only live in places where there is enough bamboo to eat.

When giant pandas are fully grown they can be almost 5 feet long and they usually weigh over 200 pounds
It is against the law in China to harm a giant panda in any way
Giant pandas need very big and strong teeth to chew bamboo because bamboo is very tough
Most giant pandas are born in dens in hollow trees
Giant pandas are among the most endangered animals on earth because there is not enough bamboo to eat

A bamboo plant lives for 40-80 years.

Dogs and Traditions
The Chinese dye the fur of their chow chow dogs and their golden lab dogs to resemble giant pandas and tigers.
The people who saw the dogs thought they were so cute that they would not stop taking pictures of them.
One summer in China there was a dog fur dying competition.
The dogs do not really like it but they have to deal with it.
GoldfishThe Chinese are thought to be the first goldfish breeders.
The Chinese traditionally liked to keep goldfish as pets.
Goldfish are common household pets in China.
Goldfish can theoretically grow to any size.
No matter how different goldfish look they all are the same species.

It is common to see people in China with cloth covered bird cages in parks taking their pet birds for “walks”.
Pet birds need fresh air once in a while.
The Chinese enjoy bird singing competitions .
The contests are often held on Sunday mornings.
The winners are the birds who can sing the most songs in 15 minutes.

How the Chinese care for their pets
Chinese pet owners spend about 2 US billion dollars on theirs pets each year.
In some places in China people are allowed to throw their cats or dogs in the street if they don’t want them any more.
Some people in China buy pet monkeys and use them for entertainment.
