Global Trade Review (GTR) returned to China to host the China Trade & Commodity Finance Conference 2016 on November 22.
Shanghai was the new host city for this year’s event, following three years in Beijing, and proved to be a key meeting point for business leaders and experts from the Chinese trade finance community. Over 190 attended the conference, including domestic, regional and international financial institutions, local SMEs and global corporates, policy makers, lawyers, specialist trade finance and experts conducting trade business within China.
Delegates had the chance to weigh in on discussions throughout the day. Topics discussed included a how-to-approach for corporates currently expanding their operations in the country, an examination of the ease of conducting business in China, assessing China and its trade landscape, a breakdown of what the future may hold for Asia’s economic powerhouse, and featured group discussions further focused on supply chain finance, SME’s, digitisation and trade-based money laundering.
Overall, the conference provided a lively atmosphere for delegates to immerse themselves in a day of dialogue while arranged networking breaks allowed attendeesto meet with the market’s primary decision makers, providing those the chance to become re-acquainted with old contacts and foster new working relationships with those in the industry.

PRESS RELEASE
Global Trade Review’s China Trade & Commodity Finance Conference 2016 successfully launches in Shanghai
Global Trade Review (GTR) returned to China, to host the China Trade & Commodity Finance Conference 2016, on November 22.
Shanghai, the new host city for 2016’s event, provided a key meeting point for business leaders and experts from the Chinese trade finance community. Over 190 attended the conference, including domestic, regional and international financial institutions, local SMEs and global corporates, policy makers, lawyers, trade finance specialists and experts conducting business within China.
Topics covered over the course of the one-day event included a keynote address by Jean-Pierre Lehman, Founder of Evian Group and Emeritus Professor of International Political Economy, IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland, who analysed infrastructure, OBOR and the New Silk Road and what it essentially meant for trade. Other discussions included a practical overview and corporate guide to doing business in China, followed by a panel of industry experts providing insight into key considerations on the ease of doing business in the country. A classroom-style breakout then allowed
attendees the chance to ‘have their say’ on issues with a panel of industry experts who directed discussions on four key topics; supply chain finance, SMEs, digitisation and trade based money laundering.
“We were very excited to move the conference to Shanghai this year, highlighting the opportunities of doing business in China,” says Rosie Madderson, producer of the event. “2016’s event had a much more international flavour, allowing expert speakers to share their experiences of the local market. There was also great interest around the One Belt, One Road initiative, which stresses China’s prominence in the Asian market and what they are hoping to achieve in facilitating global trade”.
The conference format included several networking breaks throughout, providing ample opportunities for attendees to meet with the market’s primary decision makers, giving delegates the chance to become re-acquainted with old contacts and foster new working relationships with those keen to do business across China.
“A good opportunity to gain updates on the recent developments in the field of trade and export finance.”
J Hanninen, Nokia
“If you want to expand your business in China with regards to trade finance, GTR is a good platform to connect with stakeholders.”
E Lee, Tokio Marine Kiln
