As part of J.P. Morgan’s China Conference 2012, an exclusive weekend retreat was held at the Aman

Summer Palace Resort in Beijing from June 15-17. The Aman Resort is adjacent to the Summer Palace,

a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Beijing’s most popular attractions. The weekend featured

small roundtable discussions with CEOs from some of China’s most dynamic companies, renowned

Hands-on China expert speakers and influential asset managers from around the world. Some of the

diverse discussion topics included China’s economic and financial outlook, the demand for commodities,

business dynamics in China and global investment allocation. Participants enjoyed a program of

networking opportunities and cultural excursions, including a guided tour of the Great Wall and dinner

at the Commune by the Great Wall, a property hailed as a “New Architectural Wonder of China”.

As part of the J.P. Morgan China Conference 2012, an

invitation-only, pre-conference tour was held in Shanghai and

Ningbo from June 9-12. In Shanghai, the tour visited some

of the most impressive manufacturing and R&D facilities of

leading multinational firms such as General Electric, General

Motors, Dow and Roche. A range of retail and property site

visits allowed participants to gauge consumer spending

patterns and the effect of recent changes in government

policy on China’s real estate market. A series of informal

lunches and dinners also offered roundtable discussions with

CEOs of leading Chinese companies and senior management of

multinationals with a major presence in China.

The tour then moved on to the vibrant port city of Ningbo.

Making use of infrastructure key to China’s development, the

group traveled over the remarkable 36km-long Hangzhou

Bay Bridge – the world’s longest sea bridge which has almost

halved the travel time from Shanghai to Ningbo. The group

stayed at the stunning Park Hyatt Ningbo Resort & Spa Hotel,

located on the banks of Dong Qian Lake with scenic views of a

city that has been a major trading post for 2,000 years. While

in Ningbo, participants visited leading banks and enterprises

to explore the nation’s transition from an export-oriented to a

domestic-focused economy, and how China’s SMEs are faring

in this challenging environment.
