Our Mission Statement

“And the child grew and became strong; He was full of wisdom and God’s blessings were upon Him.”

(Luke 2:40) Our Vision

We strive, with God’s grace, to enable every child to grow academically, socially, morally, spiritually and

culturally in the knowledge they are loved by God and are safe and valued within our school community. Our

core Christian values are woven throughout our curriculum and wider school ethos to fully prepare each of our children to achieve the highest holistic outcomes. Our mission statement, “And the child grew and became

strong…” (Luke 2:40) embodies our vision and commitment to equip children with the values and tools to enable them to thrive and flourish, embracing both

success and challenge, prepared for “life in all its fullness.” (John 10:10)

Vision Ambassadors On Thursday, we went with Mrs Mason to a meeting at St James house. We learnt about how our mission statement is important to us. We used our Christian values in a poster about what we do as a Church of England school. The meeting was trying to teach us about our school mission statement (And the child grew and became strong; He was full of wisdom and God’s blessings were upon him.) We seem to have settled right into the term and there is a real buzz of learning and enjoyment throughout school which is lovely to share. Our youngest children are settling well and are now in their two classes alongside friends with whom they work and explore particularly well. Our oldest children have been to the Museum of Liverpool to discover more about the impact of World War 2 on people locally. It was lovely to see a number of you making the most of our free health event this morning, leaving school with lots of goodies and, perhaps, some useful advice. I’m delighted to see an improvement in both attendance and punctuality as term progresses; I have attached our Attendance and Punctuality Policy to the newsletter this week. Have a lovely weekend, everybody.

Week 2 in Active Breakfast Club saw the introduction of the ‘green smoothie’. After some doubt, the children had a taste with most enjoying it and having seconds. The question all the children wanted to know was what was in it to make it green? Mango, kiwi, spinach and kale…fruit and vegetables!! After breakfast, it was time to learn about and play a new sport. Bench ball was introduced and the children learnt the rules and got going. With instructions and tips from Jack the coach, the children quickly got the hang of it and the competitive nature of them all came out!

House Point Winners – Faith

Well done to children from all four houses who have worked so hard to earn house

points this week.

Year 6 museum trip On Tuesday, the year 6s went to the museum of Liverpool to learn about WW2 in Merseyside. We went there because we are learning about WW2 and how it affected Liverpool in history. We went round and answered questions which were hidden in the museum. We learnt lots of new facts and sat on the overhead railway carriage. At the end, we watched a video which was about older people who were alive during the war saying what they did. We got to find all the interesting facts like who the allies were and why the docks were so important to get all the food. There is no doubt this has helped bring our history topic to life.

Science T-Shirt – Year 6 First, you put the T-shirt on and scan it. You can see inside your body. It's not actually your body because it’s just a T-shirt programmed like that. During this process, it is scanning how fast your heart rate is going. In class we have been using this T-shirt in science. It is lots of fun to play with, but you need to download the app called ‘Curiscope’. It's helping us learn about the circulatory system and instead of us trying to imagine what is happening inside the body, we can see inside the body with this app.

Year 3 Interview We interviewed two children, Maliha and Isaac, from year 3 about how much they liked year 3. They are learning about Fantastic Mr Fox and like reading and describing the characters. Their favourite part of school so far this year is going on the field and being on the junior yard. The two children in year 3 say that year 3 is their favourite year so far. Their favourite lesson is P.E. They think that having trays is useful and helpful for storing things. They like to run the Daily Mile and being able to take books out of the library. They like their new teacher because she is sporty.

Reading Ambassadors This morning, our Year 6 reading ambassadors were announced! Although their main job is the daily running of our two libraries, they also have the very important role of promoting reading and poetry throughout the school year, helping out at reading events, Book Buses and running lunchtime storytelling sessions and book discussion groups! This is the largest number of Reading Ambassadors yet, so we can't wait to see what's in store this year!

Maths Ambassadors We had lots of applications to enrol as a maths ambassador this year! This year we have 12 maths ambassadors from year 6. We held our first meeting to discuss how we could support mathematics across the school. From next week our maths ambassadors will be leading times table clubs during lunchtime for all year groups. The team will also be designing exciting maths trails for KS 1 and KS2 using the outdoor environment. Four of our ambassadors are planning to lead a Collective Worship about numbers in the Bible. Later on in the year, we will be planning maths focus days such as Pi Day, Fibonacci Day and a Maths Party Day! The maths ambassadors will also be available to help with homework each lunch time. We are looking forward to being positive role models and helping children across school.

U11 Boys' Broadgreen League It was the first game of the season this week against Barlows Primary School, which took place at Broadgreen International School. Four goals and a man of the match performance from team captain, Tom, ensured a comfortable 10-3 win. A great start to the season, boys; well done! Liverpool Primary Schools' Cross Country League - Race 1 The first Cross Country race of the season was held at Croxteth Park this week and the children were very much looking forward to it. Twelve girls and boys were selected for their respective races in the large schools category with well over 100 athletes taking part. With the top six runners from each school counting towards the overall score, we were thrilled with the results: Boys (45 points) 1st place! Girls (50 points) 1st place! Congratulations to both teams who now sit top of the league. Please visit www.liverpoolprimaryrunning.org to keep up with event information and result

Community Links: Food Bank (ongoing appeal) Thank you so much to those of you who have already begun to send in items for food bank; the children can see our hamper in the foyer filling up nicely, a visible reminder to them of how we can all find ways to follow Jesus’ instruction to ‘love others as ourselves’. Items

can be sent in for foodbank on any day for the children to add to the basket.

PTFA – AGM Tuesday 24th September 2019 – 4pm (See week 1’s newsletter for full information) It would be wonderful to see as many people as possible attend this meeting, willing to play their own small part in ensuring the PTFA can continue. A 4pm meeting has been planned to ensure teachers can attend to help towards the voting numbers of 40 required for the AGM to take place. If you are able to make alternative arrangements for children, that would be great, but there will be classroom space allocated for any children who you need to bring with you. Thank you.

Jeans for Genes A huge thank you to all who have donated towards our fundraising for ‘Jeans for Genes’ day. Collectively, we have raised £447.49, as well as having the opportunity to educate our children about the difficulties facing so many born with various genetic conditions. Thank you!

In Votes for Schools this week, pupils considered the advantages and drawbacks of gaming. They identified some of the skills and knowledge needed to potentially make a career within the gaming industry, including leadership, being a good writer and communication skills. They also talked about Jaden Ashman who recently earned £1 million in the ‘Fortnite’ world cup, before going back to school. Apparently Jaden spends 8 hours a day playing Fortnite and pupils considered the impact of committing that much time to anything on other aspects of life such as schoolwork, family, friendships and health. Children talked about some of the positives they find from gaming and also considered some of the warnings and concerns of various professionals. There was a clear gender difference in this week’s vote. Asked to vote on the question “Is gaming good for you?” 63% of boys voted ‘Yes’ compared to just 33% of girls. This averaged to 48%, almost identical to the national vote.

For the third year, we are delighted to be working with Leonard Cheshire Disability’s ‘Can Do’ programme and the sixth formers of Childwall Abbey School. ‘Can Do’ is a volunteering programme for young disabled people, offering support, information and training through bespoke projects. The students from Childwall Abbey will be coming into school each week until Christmas and working on the ‘Can Do Again’ project, gaining a leadership award in the sport of Kin-ball and then delivering training sessions to all of our children. The Can Doers will be supported by students from Liverpool John Moores University and the project will culminate in a Y3&4 competition. Ground rules were agreed, introductions made and tales of nerves and excitement shared amongst the group. A tour of the school helped to get rid of (some of) the nerves as the Can Doers were introduced to the children and staff of Childwall CE. After lunch and quick Daily Mile, it was time for some group exercises. The first, armed with newspapers, scissors and Sellotape, was to see which team could build the tallest, free standing tower structure. The next, to take the internal organs of the body and stick them in the right place on the paper body. This helped the Can Doers to understand a healthy body and how it works. Our new friends from Childwall Abbey will be documenting the project journey in photo and film to be presented to the whole school community during the celebration event in December. We look forward to watching the project grow over the coming months. See our Community page on the website for all of the photographs.

Wow! I think this is the best week of whole school attendance I have ever seen, with every class above 97% and so all coloured green! Special mention to classes 1, 2, 6, 7, 11 and 12 with 100%. As a whole school, you achieved a fantastic 99.1% this week!

Our menu for this week is: Monday – Sausage or Veggie Bangers with Hash Brown & Beans Tuesday – Chicken Curry or Chunky Veggie Curry with Steamed Rice & Vegetables Wednesday – Roast Dinner or Quorn Roast with Roast Potatoes & Vegetables Thursday – Lasagne & Garlic Bread or Cheese & Tomato Slice with Herb Diced Potatoes & Vegetables Friday – Fishy Friday or Cheese & Potato Bites with Oven Baked Chips & Beans

Every Day: If children prefer, we also have a selection of sandwiches, hot baguettes, pasta pots, wraps and jacket potatoes available daily. The salad trolley and sliced bread are also available each day, in addition to the selected meal. Children are very welcome to try a small amount of ‘something new’ alongside what they have chosen to try to encourage them to be ‘more adventurous’ in their food choices. Desserts this week include oaty cookie, jam sponge & custard, chocolate brownie, jelly & cream, ice cream, yoghurt and Ffresh fruit.

A reminder of the options for school dinners: 1. Packed Lunch for Junior Children 2. Packed Lunch with Fishy Friday for Junior Children 3. School Dinner Once you have selected an option, this will need to remain the option for the remainder of the half term. This ensures that our kitchen staff are able to order and prepare the correct number of school meals. The cost of a school dinner is £2.00 per day and must be paid for weekly in advance. All infant children receive a Universal Free School Meal.
