Columbarium Memorial Garden Project Underway Construction of the Memorial Garden Columbarium officially started Monday, July 21 and completion is expected in October–in time for dedication on All Saints’ Day. Angela French said, “The Committee is most excited to see this day come to pass after about five years of working on this project. Over 60 niches have been purchased, many memorials for the memorial wall, and many contributions for the labyrinth, bench, and the cross.” Rev. William Green met with the committee members at the site of the groundbreaking and led them in the following prayer:“Gracious God, we break ground for this Columbarium, giving you thanks for the faith that is ours in Jesus Christ. May this place be a witness to our faith in Christ, who has lived our life, died our death, and is now risen for our sake. May this place be a hallowed ground of sacred remembrance of our loved ones. May this place be a source of continual comfort for those who grieve. We thank you for all who have labored hard and long in preparation for this day. Bless those who will fulfill this project by the work of their hands. To you be all honor and glory, for you are Alpha and Omega, and in your love we are forever kept.“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

Sharing the Heart of Christ from the Heart of CaryBosnia Mission Each summer, servants from our church spend two weeks at the Omladinski Center in the town of Gornji vakuf-Uskoplje, planning, organizing, and operating a day camp for the children of the community. Thecampserves75-100childreneachday.“ItrainedeverydayduringtheBosnia Mission this year and some days it was down right cold, dipping into the 40s some nights,” said Rev. Craig Gaither. “Brightness andwarmth came through however, on the faces of the many children we were honored to serve. When you go on a mission trip you don’t come back the same. The people you go to work with will change you. What you do and see will become a burden on your heart. Everything we do in Bosnia is done in the shadow of loss, poverty, and uncertainty about the future. But the gifts

Bolivia Mission “This year was my fourth year traveling to Bolivia,” said Carly Broadwell, “and was probably my favorite year. It was great to reconnect and develop a stronger relationship with our partners in El Alto, and I’m really glad we were able to assist in building a teen center for the clinic, which was a different project from years past.” A group of First Cary youth and adults travel each summer to assist the medical team at Consejo de Salud Rural Andino. They dug holes for the new clinic and accompanied nurses on home visits.Julia Sawchak said, “I realized that even though the work is hard, it is a blessing for us to be able to help others and make a positive change.” She said Katie Broadwell and Parker Zimmerman’s devotion based on

1Corinthians12:12-23,whichsays that the church is one body with many parts, gave her new perspective. “Although I couldn’t pick axe or shovel quite as effectively as Bryan or Jason, they wouldn’t be able to understand the Bolivian men on the worksite without Carly or me there to translate. I started to notice everyone’s individual gifts, and I became so grateful that we were all in this together.”

Zach Ripberger and Bryan Gibbons both said, “Digging holes and painting may not seem that important, but it helps to build strong relationships.” – Lori Barmer, Communications

Favorite Scriptureromans 5:1-2 (nrsv)Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.

HEALTHconnection“Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.” Philippians4:6-7Worry is a normal reaction to a stressful situation or problem. Excessive worrycanhaveanegativeimpactonourhealthandwell-beingandthus,move us farther away from feeling balanced and centered in Christ. PHYSICAL: Worry and anxiety can have many unhealthy physical affects, including changes in appetite, sleep, lifestyle habits, heart rate and blood pressure, job performance, and muscle tension. Incorporating healthy coping strategies such as making healthy food choices, reducing caffeine intake, exercising regularly, journaling, prayer, communicating and getting proper sleep are a few examples of properly dealing with anxiety to maintain balance and wholeness. EMOTIONAL: If you find that you are overly concerned about something that “might/might not” happen, try to identify what those thoughts and fears are. Then, you will be able to shift the irrational and uncertain thought into a more rational and present thought. For example: “I am worried about a situation at work” is a concern about something that is uncertain. By identifying this fear and the associated emotion, it can be shifted into “I feel stressed about this situation, but I need to continue to work hard and do all that I can today and not worry about the outcome.”MENTAL: When we are worried, we lose the ability to concentrate and focus on what is truly important in the moment. Notice the here and now, rather than focusing on uncertain thoughts and fears!SPIRITUAL: For the most part, the thoughts and fears we worry about are typically those things in which we do not have any control over and

we are more likely to drift into an irrational state of mind. If you are able to identify what you do not have control over, lift those thoughts up to the Lord and let them go. Look to God for help and guidance. Pray that He will provide. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. Know him in all your paths, and he will keep yourwaysstraight.”Proverbs3:5-6

Your gift makes so much possible. A caring and helpful counselor for vicims enduring a nightmare. A home away from home for women and families in danger and crisis. A multitude of resources available to plant the seeds of true empowerment and self-sufficiency. In short, your generous support makes it possible for victims to become survivors, and those survivors to thrive. For so many, this road is made bearable by their faith, so the support of the faith community is particularly meaningful. Again, on behalf of the thousands of lives we touch each and every year, I thank you for providing an important lifeline to them through your support of InterAct.Sincerely,Leigh G.
