Childproof to-do’s before your baby walks

Bathing Never, ever leave a child in the tub unsupervised, not even for a few seconds. Put Non Slip Bath & shower Safety Strips in – and next to – bathtub. Prevent scalds by turning down your water heater to keep water temperature below 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Nice to have: Soft cover for bathtub spout Covers for bathtub knobs

Preventing burns Don't carry hot food or drink and your child at the same time. Keep hot food and drink away from edges of tables and counters. Don't hold your child while cooking at the stove. Turn pot handles toward back of the stove. Secure the oven door with an appliance latch. Install a stove guard and Stove & Oven Knob Cover.

Doors Use Door Stop/Anti-pinch Door Stopper and door holders to protect child's fingers. Electrical outlets, cords, and appliances Put safety plugs or outlet covers over unused outlets or block them with furniture. Hide electrical cords behind furniture or use a hide-a-cord device. Keep blow dryers, toasters, and other appliances unplugged and out of reach.

Toilet Install a toilet-seat lock (top-heavy young toddlers can fall in and drown) and use Baby Toilet Cover with Handle.

Windows Buy cordless window coverings if you can. Cut off or tie up dangling cords on drapes and blinds or buy a tension device to keep looped cords tight. Mark sliding doors and other expanses of glass with colorful stickers. Install window guards to prevent falls (though be sure they're easy for an adult to remove in case there's a fire). Install window stops so windows can't be opened more than 4 inches. Don't depend on screens to prevent falls. Move furniture away from windows.
