History of chicken pox!

• Discovered by Giovanni Filppo during the 1500’s in Italy.

• A physician, Richard Morton gave the name chicken pox.

• Richard Morton thought chicken pox was mild form of smallpox

• William Heberden was the first to prove chicken and small pox were different.

Defining Disease!

• Chicken pox is a virus• You know you have it when fever, soar throat, red

blisters.• The disease has been around since the 1500’s.

How does it spread?

• In the air,when cough and sneeze, direct touch.• Also you can get it by saliva and mucus.

Likely to get the disease?

• Kids are likely to get this disease.• Under the age of 15 is more likely.• Bys and girls are equally likely to get it but depends

on environment.

Men,women,kids,adults?

• this type of disease can be for boys and girls• If you are less than 15 years of age you are more

likely to get it.• You can get it by direct touch or type of

environment.• Yet, all people are suitable to get this disease.

Treatment

• Acyclovir is approved for treatment of chickenpox• Although tends to not be necessary because it occurs

in healthy people who are risk to moderate to severe varicella.

• Varicella is considered for older people• You have to consult with your doctor before taking it

Current Research

• In study appearing Thursday in the new England journal of medicine doctors already know vaccine reduces the number of cases.

• Yet the protection does not last long.
