Our Vision Of Sustainability We envision inclusive and just communities of civically engaged residents working together to address social disparities and promote environmental health, human well-being, and community vitality for present and future generations.
Who We Are The CSLN connects grassroots leaders from communities across Chicago to share resources, support each other’s work, collaborate, build a stronger collective voice, and nurture equitable and impactful relationships with policy makers.

130 people participate, representing 95 organizations
16 network gatherings held at 12 spaces across the city
8 CSLN members trained in ICA facilitation methods
7 public events held, collectively drawing over 100 participants
1 collaborative grant proposal submitted to Illinois Science and Energy Innovation Foundation (ISEIF)
9 student interns placed with 4 CSLN members
Year One Highlights
Aug 2013 - Boeing grant received to launch Chicago Sustainability Leaders Network (CSLN) Oct 2013 - Network launched at The Institute of Cultural Affairs with 47 people Mar 2014 - 1st iteration of network vision, mission, and guidelines collaborative developed May 2014 - Panel Discussion facilitated at GreenTown Chicago Conference with 8 members Aug 2014 - Greater Chicago Dialogue and Deliberation Community of Practice grant received for summer network gathering Oct 2014 - “Is It Just Space?” interactive event held with Center for Humans and Nature, launching justice and space series Sept-Nov 2014 - ICA GreenRise launches CSLN hub activities with three events planned with other network members

150 people engaged by the Faith & Sustainability Forum and 4 geographically dispersed pre-forum discussions.
$5,532 dollars raised from small grants and crowdfunding towards collaboratively designed and implemented projects

Jan 2015 - 4 CSLN members are awarded a grant for Culturally-Inspired Smart Grid Education in 3 Chicago Communities Feb 2015 - CSLN gets a logo! Mar 2015 - Round table #1: 17 CSLN members and Chief Sustainability Officer Karen Weigert discuss ways to form collaborative partnerships. April—Oct 2015 - ‘Is It Just Space?’ multidisciplinary 10 event series with 26 partners April 2015 - CSLN partners with crowdfunding platform ioby to fund 4 collaborative projects featuring 26 partners. April 2015 - CSLN members present at the Integrated Network for Social Sustainability (INSS) International conference from the Michigan site. June 2015 - Northside Sustainability Hub location launches July 2015 - Round table #2: CSLN members, Karen Weigert & Chicago Parks Dept met to discuss access and use of public parks and community space. Sept 2015 - 300 people attend Sustainable September Ride Series through 5 neighborhoods. Toni Anderson is Founding Executive Director of Sacred
Keepers Sustainability Lab. She facilitates workshops
on sustainability, consumer economy, monarch and
urban ecology.
Melanie Eckner
North Side Liaison
Uptown Coastal Initiative
Melanie is an editor who specializes in multilingual
projects. She also works with the Uptown Coastal
Initiative, where she combines her profound
knowledge of Uptown’s history with her passion for
sustainability.
Lorena Lopez
Southwest Liaison
Faith in Place
Lorena coordinates the outreach support staff at Faith
in Place as they connect with and educate faith
communities throughout the state around energy
efficiency. She has been married for over 13 years and
is the proud mother of three children.
