NEW FOR 2012
We are pleased to add two journals to our portfolio for 2012. The new titles are available indi-vidually and as part of the Complete Chicago Package.
American Political Thought will feature research by political scientists, historians, literary scholars, economists, and philosophers who study the texts, authors, and ideas at the foundation of the Ameri-can political tradition. Research will explore key political concepts such as democracy, constitutional-ism, equality, liberty, citizenship, political identity, and the role of the state. Published in association with the Notre Dame Department of Political Science and the non-profit Jack Miller Center, American Political Thought will be the only journal dedicated to the burgeoning field of American political thought. It will publish twice a year in print and electronic formats, with the first issue to publish in spring 2012.
Beginning in spring 2012, the University of Chicago Press, on behalf of The Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA), will publish Art Documentation, a peer-reviewed journal focused on art and architecture librarianship, visual resources curatorship, digital image management, visual arts technology, and related areas. With its move to the Press, Art Documentation will continue to publish twice yearly in both print and electronic format. The print edition will feature a new layout and an exciting new cover design reflective of the journal’s visually oriented audience. The first issue under the partnership will publish spring 2012 (volume 31 number 1).

Rent Dissipation in the Nevada Territory
Mark Twain traveled to Nevada in 1861 when his brother, Orion, was appointed secretaryof the Nevada Territory where he observed:
The Legislature sat 60 days, and passed private toll-road franchises all the time. Whenthey adjourned it was estimated that every citizen owned about three franchises, andit was believed that unless Congress gave the Territory another degree of longitudethere would not be room enough to accommodate the toll-roads. The ends of themwere hanging over the boundary line everywhere like fringe. The fact is, the fright-ening business had grown to such important proportions that there was nearly asmuch excitement over suddenly acquired toll-road fortunes as over the wonderfulsilver mines.

OSIRISIf climate is not just about the weather, what is it?
Series Editor: Kathryn Olesko Sponsor: The History of Science Society www.hssonline.org
Osiris volumes explore novel ways of synthesizing major historical events that demand consideration of the role science has played in them. A benefit of the History of Science Society membership, these volumes bring together experts in the field to consider multiple aspects of the time period, episode, or theme.
Volume 26 —Klima. Edited by James Fleming and Vladimir Jankovic. This newest annual edition of Osiris brings together top scholars to consider the topic of climate. Klima delves into the elusiveness of climate, looking at the question of what “climate” means from a historical perspective. In reaching back to the Greeks, who give the volume its title, this collection of essays seeks to break the term free from its current association with atmospheric sciences in order to explore the term’s long history of broader usage in medical geographic, agricultural, racial and other contexts.
AudienceMembers of the History of Science Society, researchers, educators, and students interested in the history of science, medicine, and technology.
About the EditorsJames Fleming is a historian of science and technology and Professor of Science, Technology and Society at Colby College, Maine. SCHOOLS—STUDIES IN EDUCATIONPresents real-world stories and commentary on the triumphs and trials of today’s classroom educators
Editor: Andy Kaplan Executive Editor: Dan FrankSponsor: The Francis W. Parker School, Chicago www.fwparker.org
Schools: Studies in Education fills a long-standing void in the world of educational publications, provid-ing a forum to promote the scholarship and career growth of school educators. It accomplishes this by giving school teachers and others a rare space to explore, through stories and their related com-mentaries, the more dynamic and complex experiences of school life in ways that convey how human relationships, thoughts, and emotions shape the meaning of educational experience in schools.
This peer-reviewed journal publishes scholarly articles based on theory and research, interpretive reflec-tive essays, brief informal meditations and stories, and educationally relevant reviews of books, films, art exhibitions and musical performances. In addition, each issue features a reprint of an intriguing passage from a long-ago, previously written or published insight or reflection on education in schools.
AudiencePre K-12 educators, administrators, university professors, and others who work with students.
About the EditorsAndy Kaplan, Ph.D. is the founding editor of Schools. He has taught English at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago since 1973. He is also the Director of the Parker Archives. Daniel B. Frank, Ph.D. is Principal of the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. He is the executive editor and founding pub-lisher of Schools.
