Level 7 Tournament Director will re-

ceive a CDTA Sportsmanship Award

Certificate to recognize a player at their

tournament. Each sportsmanship winner

will be decided by the Tournament Di-

rector and their staff. The award winner

will then receive a CDTA Sportsmanship

Award certificate, and be listed on our

website if the CDTA office is notified. If

the Sportsmanship Winner sends us their

T he WSC Scholars are an accomplished group of high school students

representing 15 different Olympic sports and 27 public, private and

parochial Chicago schools. Students were selected from a diverse group

who applied last fall and were chosen based on their academic records, involvement in sport and

their demonstrated commitment to the Olympic values of Excellence, Respect and Friendship.

WSC Scholars, including Love to Serve student-athletes Kevin Campbell, Gabrielle Moore, Maya

Wilson and Steven Willis, will participate in the Chicago Scholars Mentoring Program and Kap-

lan Test Preparation and Admissions courses, The scholars will also compete for one of sixteen

$10,000 renewable college scholarships supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur

Foundation. They will serve as program ambassadors and help promote Olympic values in their

communities by sharing their stories as student-athletes, spreading the message of the Olympic

values and emphasizing the value of higher education to younger students.

“We’re excited to welcome the first group of student athletes into the WSC Scholars Program,”

says Scott Myers, Executive Director of World Sport Chicago. “With the support of our com-

munity partners we are encouraging students to work hard on the playing field and in the class-

room and to continue those efforts as they pursue college degrees.”

G LASA (Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association) is going to be hosting

the 2010 National Junior Disability Championships (www.njdc2010.org)

from July 17 to July 24, 2010. NJDC has grown from a small meet in 1984 to

an amazing, major event - involving over 300 young athletes aged 7 to 21 from

around the country (and several foreign countries) who have a variety of physi-

cal or visual impairments.

This is the first time this prestigious event will be held in Illinois... and help is

needed to make these games the best ever! Dozens of volunteers are needed to

pitch in with the logistics and planning of this major event. A wonderful and

dedicated planning team is already in place but some key volunteer positions

remain unfilled.

There are ways you can help: You can volunteer to help in the NJDC planning

committee, or offer to donate in-kind goods and services. Please contact Cindy Housner, Executive Director for

GLASA ([email protected]) about the ways you might wish to help. This should prove to be an event that will be

unforgettable!.

U STA Flex Leagues are starting up again this

Spring in Chicago. For those unfamiliar with

this program, it is a loosely-knit league that allows for

vacations, flexible times, different locations, meeting

new tennis friends and most of all, fun! Register

online and be placed into a flight of about 8-10 other

players that are in the same NTRP level. From there,

you control the schedule! The time/day/location of the

match is completely up to you and your opponent.

Singles, doubles and mixed doubles are available in

both the city and the suburbs.

The website, should you like to learn more or register,

is www.ustaflex.com. Feel free to contact the LTO,

Diana Bieniewski, at [email protected] with

questions. Registration for the Spring season will open

at the end of March and play will start at the begin-

ning of May. Registration for the Summer season will

open at the begining of July and play will begin in

mid-August. Cost is $35 for non-members and $25 for
