Extended service activities were warming up for the festive season. Parents, carers and their children participated in free HAFLS Christmas craft workshops which took place in Brookland Junior, Brookland Infants, Dewhurst, BurleighBurleigh, St Josephs’ and Downfield Primary schools. The aim of the workshops was to create a safe and fun learning environment where parents an d children had fun together, were able to meet other families, bringing families intinto the school environment, enabling the school to become more accessible to its community.

“We all really enjoyed this session! Kids loved making a mess and it was great to all sit together and make our creations”! “Enjoye“Enjoyed this as could make a mess and spend time with my mum, it was so creative as you could make lots of stuff”Luke Burgess Yr5

Family PotteryParents/carers have been having loads of fun with their children taking part in Pottery. The activity is for one hour over four weeks where families can spend quality time together creating many sculptures and painting many wonderfuwonderful designs. All of which brings out your creative side and gives families the opportunity to do things they may not be able to do at home. The next courses will be Mon 7th March at Holy Trinity primary school and WWed 9th March at Four Swannes primary. Everybody welcome! If you can’t make it there, Pottery will be coming to a school near you soon. Please see the ChExs course booklet or the back of this newsletter for other times.

T Tahill - “Quality time with my children not rushing, one to one with my children really enjoyed doing art activities”.

Conservation Area

Twenty Year 9 Students at Turnford School dug into transforming a small woodland at the back of the school into a conservation area. Groundwork, Hertfordshire’s Green Team supervised by Glenn Adam, helped the students landscape the areaarea. Tasks included strimming, pruning and clearing a pond, which will be sealed in the summer, making woodland walkways with bark chippings, making woodland furniture tables and chairs, and creating a newts hibernation

area. The conservation area will be utilised by a variety of school departments, including Science, Art, PE and Design Technology to name a few. The areas will alsalso help with extended learning outside of the schools day by giving afterschool clubs an invaluable resource to help engage and motivate students.

Quote from Mrs Berry Dept Headteacher Turnford School - Mother phoned me and said for the first time ever Jack came home from school with a huge smile on his face and could not wait for the next day as he had had such a brilliant day.

StudentStudent Yr 9: - EveEven though it was cold I enjoyed the day working in the conservation area because I got to use tools that I would never get to use. This has helped me look at school differently because you know there is different stuff you can do.

Zumba Classes

Brazilian Soccer Schools

October half term camp took place at Turnford School and children from the district had a chance to sample the skills of one of the world’s greatest footballing nations. Children had lots of fun learning the Kaka, The Ronaldinho, The Pele and

many other techniques and skills throughout the week. Putting these skills into practice with the fast 5-a-side Futbol de Salao game and various other fun games including 1v1’s. Look out for the next courses coming soon.

Family Yoga

Parents/carers have been having loads of fun with their children aged between 2-7, taking part in Yoga Bugs. The activity is for one hour and everyone can join in. Yoga improves strength, flexibility and mobility. It helps with co-ordination, balancebalance, concentration and can facilitate better sleep patterns. Children are naturally good at yoga, which makes doing it even more enjoyable, as they are more often than not, better at it than the grownups in the class! Both agage groups benefit physically, mentally a n d emotionally from the posture work, breathingbreathing, relaxation and

visualisation techniques and this can be shared at home as well as in the classes. The next clubs will be at Burleigh Primary School Mon 7th Mar and Wed 9th Mar at Dewhurst Primary school at 3.20 – 4.20. All are welcome! If you can’t make itit there, Yoga will be coming to a school near you soon. Please see the ChExs course booklet or the back of this newsletter with an up to date list of all courses and clubs.
