Week 2 Where can you find whales?
CLL – Description (setting)HG – Where can we find whales? Identify equator, Arctic, Antarctic, Northern and Southern hemisphere on world atlas. Google Earth countries on the equator. What do they notice?Computing – use the internet to copy and paste pictures of the Arctic and Antarctic.CLL – write AP sentence types to describe the physical features of the ice caps.
Week 3 What is climate change?
Use pictures from ‘This morning I met a whale’ as stimulus.

What can we do to prevent it?ST – Set up a comparative experiment to measure melting ice.Maths – Use stop watches to measure the time taken for the ice to melt. Compare times – which ice cube melted the fastest/slowest?
Week 4 How are humans damaging the ocean?
CLL – Non-chronological report (link to unit learning challenge)ST – How can we help stop sea pollution by recycling (use pictures as stimuli)? Sort out items for recycling. Can children suggest how we can reduce, reuse and recycle?HGSU/Computing – Research what damage humans are doing to the oceans – pollution.
