IMPORTANT SMP VOLUNTEER NOTES: Thank you for your generous donation of time and support to our Community! SMP Volunteer Events are open to ALL Active Duty, Dependents, DoD, and their guests. LOA’s are typically available for all SMP Volunteers within 5 business days at the SMP Front Desk. Transportation provided to Active Duty, with priority given to single/unaccompanied Active Duty Service Members, unless otherwise specified. We update our website often with additional volunteer opportunities that are not on this calendar! Please also ensure to check our website for any changes in event details. If you are POV’ing for any volunteer events, please pick up an SMP POV Volunteer Log at the SMP Front Desk, available anytime! Please turn in your completed SMP POV Log to

the Front Desk within 14 days, so we can start processing your LOAs. LOAs will be processed once confirmed. Please dress for weather!

SMP DAYS OF SERVICE!!! 19 APRIL THROUGH 25 APRIL!!! Cherry Point SMP will be participating in over 50 opportunities during this important week (all SMP’s across the World will be doing service projects this week. MARADMIN to be released). MORE INFO TO FOLLOW ON OUR WEBSITE!!!

MARCH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Craven County Habitat for Humanity (3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24 and 3/31). Assist with Habitat’s newest builds and projects in New Bern. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will return around 1300. Please wear closed toed shoes, and weather appropriate civilian attire.

New Bern Historical Society ABC Sale (3/4 and/or 3/7). o Wednesday, 3/4: Assist with event set-up! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; return around 1530. Appropriate civilian attire. Chow will be provided. o Saturday, 3/7: Assist with event! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0900; return around 1430. Appropriate civilian attire. Chow will be provided.

Camp Caroline (3/5). Help Camp Caroline get ready for the season with outdoor landscaping projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1600. Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes.

Veterans Organic Garden (3/6 and 3/18). We will be assisting the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Gardens with a variety of construction and planting projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800. Will return by 1230.

Craven County Law Enforcement Officers Association Range Beautification (3/7). Help with a variety of clean-up and beautification projects. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will return around 1300. Breakfast and lunch included. Please wear long pants and long sleeve shirt/sweater.

Friends of the New Bern Public Library (3/9 and 3/16). Assist with this great event at our local library! o 9 March - Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will return around 1130. o 16 March – Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will return around 1130.

Ft Macon State Park Special Projects (3/11 and 3/20). Assist with cleaning up Ft. Macon Beach and Trails and other special projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1500. Please bring closed toed shoes, warm clothes, hat, bagged lunch (or $ for lunch), and water source.

Annunciation Catholic School Gala (3/13 and 3/14). o Friday, 3/13: Assist with set-up! Attire is appropriate civilian; food provided! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0900; will be completed no later than 1700. o Saturday, 3/14: Assist with check-in and tear down. Attire is business casual; food provided! Meet at the Roadhouse at 1630; will be completed no later than

2300. Sickle Cell Walk/Run (3/14). Assist with the Annual Neuse-Pamlico Sound Women’s Coalition Sickle Cell Walk/Run! Help with race operations. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0645;

will return around 1230. Carteret Landing Assisted Living (3/20). Visit with our local Veterans and Assisted Living Residents in the Horizons Memory Unit during lunch time! Attire is proper civilian

attire. Please meet at the Roadhouse at 1000; will return around 1330. New Bern High School Aquatic Robotics Competition (3/21). Assist with this one-of-kind volunteer opportunity! Assist the Robotics team from NBHS with their aquatic robotics

race at the YMCA. You’ll be volunteering as judges, scorekeepers, timers, and time penalty enforcers. We’re looking for 20 volunteers, please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will return at 1530. T-shirts, lunch, and drinks provided!

“The Wall That Heals” Vietnam Memorial Replica Volunteering (3/25 through 3/29). Assist with this very important event in New Bern. Additional information is on our website.

o Wednesday, 3/25: Assist with Vietnam Wall assembly. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0730; will return around 1630. Food provided! Civilian attire; transportation available.

o Sunday, 3/29: Assist with Vietnam Wall disassembly and watch final closing ceremony. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1145; will return around 1900. Civilian attire; transportation available.

o Tuesday, 3/24 through 3/29: If you are interested in volunteering in four hour shifts as a host, parking attendant, or miscellaneous activities, please visit https://signup.com/go/vpXaDGw. (POV only).

Craven County Special Olympics Prom (3/27). Participate in this fun and important event! Hang out, socialize, and have fun! Attire is dress blue bravos. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1630; will return around 2130.

Neuse River Bridge Run Volunteering (3/27 and/or 3/28). Additional details will be on our website! Autocross (3/28 and 3/29). Assist with set-up, tear down, course operations, event monitoring (and you will get to ride with SCCA instructors). March 28 (0645-1630) and/or

March 29 (0730-1600) or anytime in-between! Will take place on base: Foxtrot Taxiway off Access Road. MCCS Youth Sports Coaching (on-going). Volunteer on base as a Youth Sports Coach! Please contact Youth Sports at 252-466-5493. Volunteering is 3 to 5 hours per week (two

1-hour practices and games are on Saturday mornings). Animal Shelter (every Saturday). Assist with walking the dogs, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. Return around 1230. Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday). Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is proper civilian attire. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Will return around

[email protected] for additional info and to register. WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest

artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer!

UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS: St. Paddy’s Day Party (Thursday, 3/12 at 1900) FREE FOOD!! Enjoy some awesome free food, green beverage specials, jello shots, music, glow corn hole tournament, and

games. Gift card prizes given for the top two glow corn hole tournament winners. Semper Fit St Patty’s Virtual Half Marathon (now until 3/17). Run a half marathon at YOUR leisure and pace. Run it all at once or a mile at a time. No specific starting time or

starting place. Whether you prefer to walk, jog, hike, run/walk on a treadmill, around a track, at the beach or even during another race; it can take place wherever you want, in your time, and at your pace with no pressure. Cost is $35. (Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, unique finisher medal, and a travel pack. For more info, please call 252-466-2208. SMP Council Meeting (3/26 at 1400 at the Roadhouse). SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL concerns. Neuse River Bridge Run (3/27 or 3/28). SMP Savannah St. Patrick’s Trip! (3/13/20 through 3/15/20). $215/pp based on double occupancy. Welcome to the LARGEST St Patrick’s celebration in the U.S.!! Enjoy 3 days and 2 nights of live music, friends, hundreds of activities, historic downtown Savannah, St. Patrick's Day Festival, and FUN! Cost of the trip is $215 which includes transportation and lodging in Savannah.
