Recently, students watched two talented Spanish actors from Onetti Productions perform a play entitled ‘Cuantos Me Gusta Tienes?’ (How Many “Likes” Do You Have?). The play is a comedy about Alejandro who has to spend one night in hospital following a very minor illness. When in hospital he posts on Facebook to tell his friends. At first he doesn’t get the sympathy he thinks he deserves, so he starts to exaggerate. Then he starts to get visitors who think he is seriously ill! The play was watched by all Cheney students in Year 9 and Year 10 who study Spanish. They were taught some of the vocabulary used beforehand and the actors used body language, props and repetition to ensure everyone could follow the story. Our students really enjoyed the play and some even got involved on stage for a bit of audience participation. All students struck a great balance between participating enthusiastically in the comedy and listening quietly when necessary. This is the second year in a row that Onetti Productions has visited Cheney and we hope to see them again next year. Dr Bown, Spanish Teacher MFL Special! The 2017

Last month, French GCSE students visited the Ashmolean to see an exhibition on French art: “From Degas to Picasso: Creating Modernism in France”,followed by an authentic French lunch at Pierre Victoire. The students had to complete an extensive booklet in French about a piece of art that they particularly liked, allowing them to access a new cultural aspect whilst

using and practising their French language skills. At thedinner table, thanks to the relaxedatmosphere, all students were able to practise theirspoken French with native-speaker staff, who would only interact with them in French. It was a really rewarding day. Ms Kirby, French Teacher

“I really enjoyed the French trip, I loved seeing all the artists’ work in theAshmolean Museum and it would have been impossible not to love the French lunch we had after!” – Brighty

“The French trip was fun because we learned about some of the French artists featured in the exhibition and were able to eat the best steak ever in an authentic French restaurant.” – Emily

“I really enjoyed the trip because the French art was interesting. In the restaurant ordering the food in French was difficult but worth it because the steak was amazing!” – Izzie

French A level students spent an invaluable day at Sommerville College for a Masterclass in French Literature. The initial lectures, on various aspects of foreign literature and how to pick them apart, gave the students from several schools an opportunity to experience university life and attend in-depthlectures by University of Oxford leading professors. The afternoon seminars allowed every student to participate in discussions and gave ample time to pick apart various chapters from their book, “un sac de billes” by Joseph Joffo. Students have since been able to feed back everything they learnt on the day to the MFL department and have already used the material in their lessons. Ms Kirby, French Teacher
