The electrosynthesis of monoallylic alcohols (III) from aldehydes (I) and allylic bromides (II) in aqueous ammonia is described. The study shows that soluble Zn 2+ -ammonia complexes formed by electro-dissolution of a Zn(0) anode give a deposit of Zn(0) with a porous network structure when reduced at the cathode. This deposit is fairly active for the title reaction. — (HUANG*, J.-M.; DONG, Y.; Chem. Commun. (Cambridge) 2009, 26, 3943-3945; Sch. Chem. Chem. Eng., South China Univ. AlcoholsQ 0230 Zn-Mediated Electrochemical Allylation of Aldehydes in Aqueous Ammonia. —

The electrosynthesis of monoallylic alcohols (III) from aldehydes (I) and allylic bromides (II) in aqueous ammonia is described. The study shows that soluble Zn2+-ammonia complexes formed by electro-dissolution of a Zn(0) anode give a deposit of Zn(0) with a porous network structure when reduced at the cathode. This deposit is fairly active for the title reaction. — (HUANG*, J.-M.; DONG, Y.; Chem. Commun. (Cambridge) 2009, 26, 3943-3945; Sch. Chem. Chem. Eng., South China Univ. Technol., Guangzhou, Guangdong 510640, Peop. Rep. China; Eng.) — M. Paetzel
