32 - 187Synthetic Studies on Spongistatins: Synthesis of the C29–C44Fragment. — The title synthesis is based on the coupling of the lithiatedF-ring sulfone (IV) with the E-ring aldehyde (II) and subsequent reductivedesulfonylation. However, this reaction gives mainly the undesired (R)-alcohol(V).
