The diastereoselective syntheses of the title compounds (IV) and (VIII) with the dimethyl groups syn or anti to the angular hydrogens are performed starting from cis-1,5-diaza-decalin derivatives (I) and (V). By reversal of the hydrogenation/deprotection steps, starting from dimethylene derivative (VI), both target diastereomers are available as major products.
