40 - 302Fluorescent Sensors for Molecules. Guest-Responsive Monomer andExcimer Fluorescence of 6A,6B-; 6A,6C-; 6A,6D-; and 6A,6E-Bis(2-naphthylsulfonyl)-γ-cyclodextrins. — The flexible hosts 6A,6B-,6A,6C-, 6A,6D-, and 6A,6E-bis(2- naphthylsulfonyl)-γ-cyclodextrins (A, B, C,and D, resp.) used as fluorescent sensors with a variety of organic compoundsare detected by naphthalene excimer and monomer emissions. Host A exhibitsan almost pure monomer fluorescence, while B, C, and D exhibit monomer andexcimer emissions. In aqueous solution, organic compounds, such as (-)-borneol,cyclohexanol, geraniol, adamantanecarboxylic acid, or cholic acid, are selectivelydetected by variations of guest- responsive monomer and excimer emissionsof the host. The data demonstrate that the hosts can be used as sensors formolecular recognition. — (HAMADA, F.; MINATO, S.; OSA, T.; UENO,A.; Bull. Chem. Soc. Jpn. 70 (1997) 6, 1339-1346; Dep. Mater. Eng.
