Chemical Bonding
Hemoglobin ;• A hemoglobin
is a protein carried by red blood cells.
Why are they important? ;
• They are important because in the transfer of oxygen because the hemoglobin attaches the oxygen to the red blood cells that carry them throughout the body.
Chemical Bonding ;
• This transfer is an example of chemical bonding because the oxygen and the red-blood cells combine just like substances would to create a compound.
How is this related to a successful climb to the top of Mt. Everest? ;• The hemoglobin will let you endure more cardiovascular
fitness because the metabolic activity is so high so more acids are produced. Therefore you have more oxygen delivered to the muscle and you are able to finish the climb!
What does PH have to with oxygen transport? ; • Low PH causes
hemoglobin to release more oxygen then usual.
Blood Doping ;
• Blood doping is the process In which you increase the number of red blood cells to enhance athletic activity.
Blood Doping ;• Autologous: it’s when somebody uses their
own blood.
• Homologous: it is when somebody uses another persons blood, but with the same blood type.
EPO ;
• EPO is the protein used to boost the production of red blood cells.
• Its used to enhance athletic activity.
Medical uses of Blood doping;• Blood doping is used to treak certain types
of anemia
Blood doping in sports;
• It is used in sports to better perform.
Examples of blood doping ;
• Steroids• Using EPO
Side Effects! ;
• Kidney damage• Blood clots • overload of circulatory system• transmission of infectious diseases
like HIV.
