USS ENTERPRISE, At sea - Cmdr. Edgardo Moreno relieved Cmdr. Max Clark as commanding officer (CO) of the “Dragonslayers” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 11 in a change of command ceremony aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) April 7. Clark, who joined HS-11 in October 2008 as executive officer, departs the squadron for his next assignment at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn., where he will serve as a detailer for the helicopter pilot community. “It’s been a great honor and a privilege to be able to serve with the Dragonslayers,” said Clark. “It’s been the opportunity and experience of a lifetime and I will certainly miss all of the great people I have served with aboard Enterprise throughout the past few years.” Moreno, HS-11’s incoming CO and former executive officer (XO), has served with the Dragonslayers since December 2009. “I’m excited, humbled and honored by this opportunity,” said Moreno. “It’s taken a lot of hard

work to get to this point, but it’s extremely gratifying because all of the Sailors I’ve worked with have been fantastic, and it doesn’t get any better than flying while serving our country.” Moreno is taking charge of a squadron that has already seen its fair share of ‘action’ during Enterprise’s 21st deployment, which has included multiple anti-piracy operations. He considers his leadership style to be very “hands-on” and said that he is enthusiastically looking forward to carrying on the same principles, traditions and dedication that has made HS-11 and its nearly

200 Sailors so successful during the first half of deployment. “This has already been one of the most interesting deployments I’ve ever been on in my entire career because of all of the different missions we’ve been asked to do,” said Moreno. “Our Sailors have risen to every occasion and performed extraordinarily well. They’ve been resilient, professional and loyal, and I could not be more proud of them.” As the new Dragonslayer CO, Moreno said his most important goals are to take care of his Sailors in every aspect, both personally and

professionally, in addition to completing a successful deployment and bringing all of HS-11 back home safely. Once back in the states, HS-11 will almost immediately begin preparing for Enterprise’s 22nd deployment, which is scheduled for next year. “This is an amazing opportunity for all of us in HS-11 to add to this squadron’s rich history while continuing to raise the bar and take this squadron to new heights,” said Moreno. Moreno also thanked his long-time friend and colleague, outgoing CO Clark, for all of his guidance and assistance with the entire transitional process. “[Clark] has done a phenomenal job of mentoring and preparing me for the challenges that lie ahead,” said Moreno. “I have been very fortunate to serve with him.” Cmdr. Ryan Keys assumed the duties as XO of the squadron. “The new CO and XO are going to make a great team, and I am fully confident they will lead the squadron to accomplish any mission that comes their way,” said Clark. “I wish them and the entire Dragonslayer team all the best.”
