Applying for Financial Aid, Grants and Scholarships Financial aid is available for Eastern Michigan University students enrolled at least half time. Financial aid includes loans, scholarships, and grants. Eastern Michigan University and Eagle Flight Centre are approved by the Federal Government's Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Program, which allows students who qualify to use financial assistance for flight training.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for federal financial aid programs which include: Pell Grant, SEOG, Direct Subsidized Loan, Direct Unsubsidized Loan, and College Work Study. Once EMU receives your FAFSA application from the government, you will be sent an Award Notification.

University Scholarships are awarded by Admissions when a student is admitted. If you do not receive a scholarship your first year at EMU, you may apply through the University Scholarship Application that is available each December. Outside scholarships opportunities are available.

Aviation students will have EMU charges that will be billed by EMU and flight fees charged by the Eagle Flight Centre. Students are responsible for paying the Eagle Flight Centre directly. Students may pay the Eagle Flight Centre with their own funds or elect to borrow through either the PLUS or Private Loan program to cover the Eagle Flight Centre fees.

Standard financial aid packages are not enough to cover flight fees. For students who would like to borrow additional funds for the flight program the following options are available:

Scholarships In addition to collegiate scholarships, there are aviation-related scholarships offered by a variety of organizations. For more information, visit: emich.edu/aviation

PLUS Loan The PLUS loan is a loan for parents of undergraduate students. The parent may borrow up to the students cost of attendance minus any other aid the student is receiving. For flight students, you must contact the Office of Financial Aid, so that your cost of attendance can be adjusted for flight classes at Eagle Flight Centre. Parents may apply for the PLUS at studentloans.gov

Private Loans In the event that you have exhausted your federal aid, private loans are available. Private Loans are credit-based student loans offered by a number of educational loan companies. For more information on private loans, you may visit: emich.edu/finaid/loans

Full time is 12 Credit hours or more; Part time is 6 Credit hours. All United States residents automatically receive resident tuition.
