WAGSMS TRIUMPH On the evening of Wednesday 9th September, our school choir performed in front of more than 3,000 people at the WA Government Schools Music Society concert in the Crown Theatre at Burswood. The performance showed that our choir just keeps getting better and better, stealing the show with their beautiful singing and excellent presentation. The performance of course was the end result of lots of hard work on the part of the choir members themselves and their leader Mrs Reif-Eaves, whose dedication and skills ensured the night would be the success it was. Well done to Karina and to all of the staff who were there to support our choir. Hello and welcome to the final newsletter for Term 3. The past fortnight has been a terrific example of whole school collaboration and success, with a variety of exciting school events. Firstly of course I would like to compliment the staff and the Year 1 & 2 students from Forrest block for their wonderful assembly on Friday 11th September. The children made very impressive unicorns and delighted the huge audience with their singing and their MC skills. Congratulations to all staff members from the Junior Primary block for such a well organised assembly. HEAD LICE A number of cases of head lice have been reported in the school recently. Please check your child’s hair regularly.

How should you look for head lice and eggs (nits)?

To check hair effectively for eggs, use a magnifying glass in strong light (eg sunlight) to examine the hair shafts close to the scalp, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. Eggs look like grains of salt and are glued tightly to the hair shaft.

To check hair effectively for head lice, carefully comb enough hair conditioner through the dry hair to thoroughly saturate the hair. Then, divide the hair into small sections and comb again, section-by-section, using a metal fine-tooth ‘nit’ comb. The hair conditioner slows the head lice down so they can be trapped in the metal ‘nit’ comb.

Continue combing the whole head in this way. Wipe the combings on a white tissue or paper towel and examine them with a magnifying glass in strong light, eg sunlight, to look for head lice and eggs.

Rinse the hair conditioner out when finished and dry the hair.

Continue the hair conditioner treatment daily for the next 10 days only if head lice have been found.

If head lice are found, it is important to check all other household members for head lice. Combing their hair with hair conditioner as described above will make this task easier and more effective. Remember to check extended family members eg grandparents, if they have had close head-to-head contact with anyone found to have head lice.

Chemical treatments are also available from the chemist.

Thank you in anticipation of your support with this request as it is only with a combined effort from the school and community that we will be able to control this problem.

INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS Parents are reminded that Mundaring PS will be hosting the Interschool Athletics on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th October. We will be selecting our Interschool Team over the coming week and advising students and parents early in Term 4. STAFFING NEWS As we reach the end of Term 3, it is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we say farewell to some staff members.

Mrs Radalj will be taking leave for the very special and joyous birth of her new baby and we wish her all the best for this exciting event. Eleanor’s replacement in Room 6 for Term 4 will be Miss Sally Boud.

It is with some sadness that we say a fond farewell to Pat, our Head Cleaner for the past 10 years. Pat has been an integral part of the team at Mundaring PS for all of her time at the school and a real character to boot! As she retires to become a lady of leisure, I’m sure we may see Pat again in some capacity, even if its just to remind us that she doesn’t have to work ever again! Mr Paul Larkin (Principal)
