ble to purchase from many retail outlets in our local
area. Please be aware that shorts must be of a suit-
able length.

fice.
READING WITH YOUR CHILDREN …
Reading with your child gives many rewards …
A quiet and special time together
A time to talk
An opportunity to hear how well they read
A time to encourage them to be the best they
can be
A time to feel proud of your child’s efforts and
knowledge.
Learning to read and continuing to read are very im-
portant for your child in the primary years and be-
yond.
Reading becomes stronger and more fluent for your
child the more they practice.
You as parents and caregivers can enable your child
to be a good reader by listening to them read, by
reading to them and with them, every day.
If you want your child to be a better reader then read
to them every night after dinner or before bed time,
and then let them read to you every day when they
come home from school, when they finish dinner or
at bedtime…maybe over breakfast!
Chatham Public School has a home reading pro-
gram in every classroom where students are able to
record their home reading while earning points, re-
wards and acknowledgement of their efforts to be a
good reader while on their way to being the best
reader they can be.
We hope you encourage your child to be involved in
their class home reading program and receive not
only points, rewards and acknowledgement for their
efforts but gain the very important skill of reading.
This skill will set them up for a lifetime of under-
standing and remember…..
…a child who reads
will be an adult
who thinks …
and we all want
that!

TERM 4 STAFFING
Students in years 3-6 will be completing Reading
and Writing instructional groups this term support-
ed by four staff members three times a week.
Thank you to Mrs Kristy Hay, Mrs Rachel Moore,
Mrs Karen Annand and Ms Fiona Buckland for
leading this initiative.
The opportunity to have intensive reading and writ-
ing instruction has been well received. Thank you
to Mr Matthew Muller for assisting with 4H teach-
ing responsibilities.
REPORTS AND INTERVIEWS
Term 4 as a reporting term is always a busy term.
Three way interviews were conducted in term 1
and 3 this year. However parents are reminded
that an interview can be requested with their
child's teacher at any time throughout the year.
We look forward to another great term of teaching
and learning.
Have a great week!

SWAP IT - EASY IDEAS FOR
HEALTHIER LUNCHBOXES
A mini flip-chart full of suggestions for healthy
lunchboxes is being sent home for each family

on the back cover to keep it handy on the fridge
for families to read and talk about when choosing
food items to eat for lunch and recess at school.
See below for further tips. These tips will continue
to be published in future newsletters.

Wingham Brush recently to view some
bats.
Students have been reading, writing and
talking about bats after reading the book
Stellaluna by Janell Cannon.
On arrival they walked through a designat-
ed track to see the bats, then stopped for a
picnic before boarding the bus to return to
school.
Pictured below are students having a great
