District News The Chatham-Kent District Annual BBQ/picnic was held on Friday, August 16, 2013 in Ferguson Park in Thamesville. It was enjoyed by all who attended. The guest speaker was Jarmo Jalava of the Carolinian Canada Coalition, coordinator of the "Ecosystem Recovery Program". His presentation focused on the rejuvenating of our local coastal region, specifically the St. Clair shores and the Rondeau Bay and coastal region. His PowerPoint presentation showed how the project would revive both areas by finding specific areas where Carolinian trees and prairie and savannah grass could be grown to revive wildlife and several species of birds, animals, and reptiles into balance. This in turn would encourage us to appreciate our heritage and regional area. Also present was his assistant Daria, who helps coordinate and initiate this project. A new project now in place is the much forgotten "Sydenham" watershed system, for which he is looking for local participants to join and view the project. This Annual C-K BBQ was our best local event to date, with many local VIPs, MPPs and VSPs in attendance. The CFFO contributed to the epiCKure, from farm to table, event on September 20. This event highlights some of the areas rich agricultural produce. Thanks to Joe Grootenboer for making the arrangements. The C-K District Board is pleased to announce that Joshua Dreise has received the district scholarship award. This award is given to a student who has member parents or grandparents in the organization. This scholarship is in the amount of $600 and can be used by the recipient to cover any school related costs. Congratulations and happy learning. project.

This Annual C-K BBQ was our best local event to

date, with many local VIPs, MPPs and VSPs in

Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario

Comments on Bill 36, Local Food Act

The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario

(CFFO) wishes to thank the committee for

considering the comments of our organization on

Bill 36, Local Food Act, 2013. The Christian

Farmers Federation represents over 4,300 farmers

across the province of Ontario. The CFFO

supports the approach being fostered by the

current draft that seeks to encourage education,

awareness, and promotion of Ontario grown food

over a regulatory approach, yet we see the

opportunity for the Local Food Act to do more to

help create sustainable local food systems in this

province.
