CHATEAU MALBAT BORDEAUX Rouge (Red) Ownership & history: Alphonse Rochet bought Château Malbat in 1865 during the reign of Napoléon III and also during the phylloxera epidemic. In spite of the fact that these were troubled times for the wines of Bordeaux, Alphonse succeeded in building the foundations of the vineyard, which has since been passed on from generation to generation. Today, Fabienne, Martine and Daniel Rochet manage the familly estate and intend to pass it on to the next generation. Vineyard & location: The vineyard stretches across the limestone slopes of La Réole. The oceanic climate brings high levels of both humidity and sunshine, leading to wines with the complex bouquet that is special to Bordeaux. Harvest, vinification & ageing: Cold maceration in vats in order to obtain the best tannins, making for a rounder wine. Over the next month, the alcoholic fermentation takes place, followed by the malolactic fermentation which eliminates any sourness. In April, the wine is transferred to stainless steel vats. Tasting: Lovely deep purple colour. Ripe fruit aromas, particularly cherry and plum. Elegant, fruity and supple body, with round tannins and a smooth finish. Blend: 95% Merlot 5% Cab. Sauvignon Cellaring potential: Up to 10 years Imported by Citadel Trading Corp., 1123 Broadway, Suite 614, New York, NY 10010
