Chasing my Y-DNA part 27Resettling of English to Scotland, and of Scottish to England.
Around 1540 the Scots resettled prisoners in England, and the English resettled prisoners into Scotland.
One can see the Armstrongs, Elwald (Ellot), and Crosers help these people reset (resettle). Clemy (Clement) Croser, is the one who adopted Clementis Hob (Clement Croser's Robert Elwald then Ellot).
There were nine of the surname Hunter that were resettled during this period of time. Also a John Priestman/Prestman, calling himself a John Hunter, at Newbattle Abbey.
The nine Hunters which were resettled were from Northern
Tyndale, and likely from the given grouping, into the welcoming arms of the Armstrongs, Elwald, Crosers, Kerr (of Ferniehurst Castle), and Scott. For reivers it is felt that these Hunters have an excellent resume.
IX (9) Hunters were resettled at Hunthill, near Jedburgh.
